Default a letter from my senator --KS SENATOR SAM BROWNBACK

i wrote him a letter telling him how much i normally support him on much of his issues, (hes a strong conservative), and then went to explain why i dont feel the govt should prohibit people from playing low stakes in their homes. heres his reply

dear mr Bigcharles:

thank you for contacting me regarding internet gambling. it is always encouraging to hear from kansans about the issues that concern them most.

i share your concern with the regulation of the internet by the federal govt. the use of the internet has skyrocketed because the federal govt has not burdened the internet industry with unneccessary regulations. however the internet is fast becoming a place where such harmful activities as gambling pornography and consumer fraud threaten consumer welfare. These developments concern me greatly, especially where our children are concerned. While i support the rights of states to regulate gambling, the availability of gambling on the Internet makes it virtually impossible for individual states to enforce their laws.

again thank u for taking the time to share ur thoughts on this impt matter. i will be sure to keep ur comments in mind as this legislation is pursued in the Senate. i hope u wont hesitate to contact me again in the future.

sincerely,
Sam Brownback, United states senator

ok now im all for cracking down on all the damn spam and fraud emails i get every day from nigeria and the UK, claiming ive won a lottery or they wanna deposit a million in my bank acct. and also against all the damn xrated annoying popups i get on yahoo messenger that say click here to see my webcam. these ims from nigeria pretending to be beautiful women who wanna chat and meet are annoying as hell, and i would like to see that children are restricted more vigorously from accessing pornography. but to consider poker as gambling is WRONG> there is real gambling that really is a bad idea, such as lotteries slots, etc and online poker is a whole different ballgame its a contest of skill and shouldnt be prohibited while playing the KS state lottery is okay.

I think that's because we were all pretty much aware of Brownback's position. I do appreciate you posting confirmation of it. Thanks for the post, and thanks for writing to Brownback.

I'm' not too surprised. They usually write back at least once. As for poker vs. gambling, Brownback sent you a canned response that he sends to everyone who asks about Internet gaming. Aside from this, FoF does see poker as the same as gambling, as do many of the anti-gaming politicians.

Lotteries are passed strictly as revenue measures.

Again, I'm glad you wrote to him. You may want to send the latest PPA letter to him as well, plus a letter and a phone call explaining that you didn't support his presidential candidacy because of his Internet poker stance (if that's the case).

Exactly .... It was a good thing that you wrote him to express your views on this subject, but this is exactly the response I predicted form Brownback. I am actually surprised he didn't say something like when you play poker on line "the terrorist win" or "every time someone fires up Poker Stars angels Cry." WTF did you expect him to say? He is a conservative Republican from Kansas ... you guys don't even believe in evolution right?

of course i dont believe in evolution. God created the world in 6 days. why do u think evolution is called a theory and not a fact? but whats that gotta do with the fact i should be able to appeal to him more than u since im coming from the same side of the fence. people have got to see how poker is DIFFERENT and seperate it from other forms of gambling if theres ever to be any hope for online poker.

Sometimes, I wish the Bible directly contradicted the theory of gravity, too.
