Default any way to charge laptop through the usb slots?

I have a broken dell 9300 laptop- it can not hold a charge
My friend has the same laptop and the only way mine works is if i use a battery he charges in his laptop
Dell dells me a part on the mother baord is broken which is why it wont charge and its not worth replacing
However is there any type of charger that connects to the usb slot that I can use?

I tried to come up with a clever yet not completely condescending analogy for why this wouldn't work, but I'm just going to agree with kerowo.

No.

It's definitely not worth replacing *to them*. They're happy to sell you a whole new computer.

Did they say what part? If it's the physical jack, you may be able to find someone who can repair it.

Yeah, maybe the jack got disconnected from the board?

One thing that wasn't clear: does the computer work when plugged in and the battery just doesn't charge or does it not work at all?

it only works if it is on battery power
If I mess with the plug where it goes into the laptop I can get it to charge if I hold it in place- however that is working less and less. It is essentially useless if I cant chrge the battery in my friends laptop.
This happened about 6 months ago and dell replaced the mother board, but it is no longer under warranty.

if the machine is basically junk to you anyways, I'd recommend taking it into a radioshack or similar electronic parts store and asking if one of the guys can try resoldering the power jack on the motherboard. These frequently come loose on dells. Computer repair places will charge upwards of $150 to fix them.

You could also post the job on craigslist.

You could also look to buy a new motherboard for it off ebay or somethig similar. Price is probably under $200-300

Back up anything important first, or if you are really paranoid, take the HD out first so you can get to the info in a worst case situation where he sets the whole thing on fire.
