People in Boston do this all the time.

seriously. sep 1st is like a one huge citywide garage sale where everything is free.

edit: also standard is a craiglist post that says "there's a free desk on the curb at 123 cherry lane, come and get it"

Could be much worse.... check this out

Takes a few minutes to read, open the pics too. I recommend hoisting a few frosty ones before doing this.... it adds a bit to the humor.

In the California city where my mom lives, anything a person puts out by the curb becomes city property, including recyclables like cans, bottles, etc. In fact, the person who put it there in the first place can get in trouble for "stealing" city property if they decide to take it back and get caught!

Last week-end our city had an official "Hidden Treasures Day" where everyone was encouraged to put stuff out on the curb with "free" signs. I was out of town camping for the week-end but I heard a lot of people did this.

Think I can get someone to take a leaking hot water tank? It's been sitting in my garage cause I haven't wanted to take it to the dump...

Think someone off craigslist would take it?

It's FREE in the seattle area... any of you want it?

People will take it just for the metal. If you really can't get anyone to take it, call your local recycling center and see if they know guys who take apart old appliances and bring them in to recycle.
