Re: The Official 2007 Chicago Cubs Thread
I love the approach so far: "hack at everything". Our master plan of doing absolutely nothing for 8 innings to lull the Giants to sleep is working so far!

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] if the '06 cardinals can win, [/ QUOTE ] Biggest pile of dogshit World Champ ever. Although if the Cubs pull a similar feat this year I wont complain [/ QUOTE ] hahahahah.... so cute let's see-led the national league in wins in 2004 and went to the world series led the national league in wins in 2005 and lost in the NLCS finally, got it's core group of players (Eckstein, Edmonds, Rolen, Pujols) healthy for the playoffs in 2006 got rid of Izzy who blew 10 saves out of 43 opportunities and replaced him with arguably the best closer in the league last year in Wainwright Had the best 1-2 punch in the national league with '05 Cy Young winner Carpenter (who finished 3rd in 06 voting) and Jeff Suppan who went 6-2 with a 2.38era the second half of the season (best among playoff pitchers) hmmmm....core of back-to-back best record in national league in place, best 1-2 starters in national league, and best closer.... but, stay fixated on that 83 number amazing that you can think the Cards were the worst champs ever with the White Sox team the year before [/ QUOTE ] the 04 and 05 teams choked big time. BTW this year's team should be a 90-100 loss team. Tony LaRussa should win manager of the year if they end up with 78-83 wins [/ QUOTE ] This team isn't that good and shouldn't be anywhere close to the playoffs, but 100 losses? MT2R's point is that if you build a long-term winner and make the playoffs consistantly, you should get a championship, either with a 105-win team or an 83-win team. The White Sox never made the playoffs except for one year when they went nuts for the whole regular season and nearly swept the entire postseason. I do believe that the Cubs would have broken the "curse" if they could have kept Wood, Prior and Zambrano together and healthy for a few years. |

MT2R, That Sox team was way better than last year's Cardinals team. Interesting how you talk about how good their core was in the playoffs, when the Sox rolled through their post season. Also, bad teams don't lead their league in wins. [/ QUOTE ] The entire season. Wire to wire. Lost one playoff game. One. |
