Default The 200 -> 400 jump

Only 18K hands into my NL career but winning over 8BB so far. Obviously this means little and I could be break even for all I know (in fact according to some I am a losing player who has got lucky) but my post is about shot taking.

I am certainly bankrolled for 400NL if I wish to take a shot and many of the higher stakes players seem to advocate putting aside a small amount and taking the occasional risk in order to move up a level.

However, I have heard from a couple of people say that the 200 to 400 jump is considered to be one of the hardest jumps to make in poker.

Is there anything in particular to look out for. I imagine there is much more 3 betting, air c/r's, value bets etc. Anyone with any more useful advice other than table selection (which I do quite well).

Thanks

There is definitely alot more aggression preflop - the regulars are tougher and there aren't quite as many passive fish. If you're running hot and have the bankroll, take a 5 or 10 buyin shot. As long as you have the control to move back down when things turn sour, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Well, I aint scared to lose. I've had enough of that at limit! I'm just not sure I have the hang of light 3 betters yet. It seems every time I take a stand with AK against a perceived light 3 better he has Aces or Kings!

I guess there's only one to find out Moss and I would drop back if need be. I once went from 15/30 back to 2/4 so I'm not that proud.

And yes, I'm on Party thankfully.

damn you freddy, you're always preparing to move up so you're a million levels above me. SSSH or SSNL, you're always on a pedestal
