Re: Just placed 10 units +4 NYGiants; 10 units Moneyline NYGiants
[ QUOTE ]
That may be your goal but that doesn't necessarily make it the goal. People gamble for their own reasons. Not all of them gamble to make a profit. Sometimes they'll make -EV plays just for the action. You see the same thing in other areas of life. For instance, the casual golfer who's always shooting at the pin. Never mind that he'd score better if he'd shoot for the middle of the green and two-putt. He goes for the stick because one time in five he leaves himself a tap-in and has something to brag about in the clubhouse. He may dump it in the water the other four times and he'll never have a single-digit handicap even though he has the skill, because that's not his goal. [/ QUOTE ] I guess I can see the point but I just don't like the Golf analogy b/c money is different. Maybe you and your friends are different than myself and my friends but we don't brag about bombing all of our money away on poor decisions and then bragging about the 1 game you happen to get right. Every person I know would laugh at me and call me a douchebag and tell me to go rope the moon somewhere else. You are right though that everyone gambles for different reasons but I do believe that when risking your roll on a game it is for the action like you said and that feeling, not to brag to your friends when you win...or b/c you owe a lot of money from all the blow the night before. |

My favorite post is where OP laughs off the concept of a $1 or $5 unit and then informs us that he is in fact betting $5 units. [/ QUOTE ] Heh, mine too. Sometimes I think I bet less money relative to my sportsbetting knowledge than almost anyone in the world. (It's not that I'm a true sharp, but more that I'm sort of a square sharp and I bet very small.) |

Re: Just placed 10 units +4 NYGiants; 10 units Moneyline NYGiants

Re: Just placed 10 units +4 NYGiants; 10 units Moneyline NYGiants
don't worry because it seems this is a topic that the OP is confused about as well.
'unit' is just how much you bet per game. I bet $25 per game so my unit is $25. I have a bankroll of $1000 so my bankroll is 40 units. So I'm betting a little more than 2% of my bankroll per game. My range typically only varies from 0.8 to 1.2 units. |

David Garrard sucks its gonna come down to whose running game does better and who makes the fewest mistakes. [/ QUOTE ] I think you nailed it here. In retrospect, I do regret going against my standard system (not that I would actually call it that) of taking the big defense over the big offense, especially at home. Figures that when I did stick with that system this weekend (Denver ... although I don't regret that play at all) it didn't work out. NY was just flat out bad last night. |

so how do we define unit? [/ QUOTE ] It's sort of like a baseline standard for your bet size. For example, if you usually bet $10 on a game, $10 = 1 unit. Some games where you feel strongly, maybe you'll bet $20, which is a 2-unit bet. |
