Default 1/2 Live - did i play this poorly?

Full ring brick an mortar game. Hero (me) is UTG+1 w/ 88.

Table is good, not too loose, not too tight, varying skill levels. Hero has top stack in this 1/2 NL game with around 700. Next biggest stack is 500, with average stack being around 250-300.

UTG raises to $12, hero calls, a total of 8 players call making the pot $96.

Flop is 6 hearts, 7 spades, 8 of spades, UTG checks, Hero bets $100, everyone folds.

How should i/ could i have played this differently for more value?

all opinions welcomed, thanks

i bet $80 (there is a major difference in the eyes of a live player between $x and $100). other than that...looks good

i agree...bet the pot, and then if a 10 or 5 does't fall on the turn, i'd pot it again, which will be an all-in... by that time, with so much money in, you can get a bad live player to call his stack off on his 8 outer. Great equity to get it in if you can induce a flop call.

you definitely should bet the flop so good job, your bet size doesnt matter significantly as long as youre betting around pot. as split said ppl might look at your bet differently if its double digits as opposed to 3.

the reason you played this fine is because any of the other randoms in the hand may decide to get fancy with a pr or overpr looking to protect vs the draw, or with a draw looking to get it in with out or steal.

You want action, and you want it right here on the flop. On drawy boards betting is often the best way to get action.

Also, checking this flop would be atrocious.

Betting this flop is mandatory with your hand. I'd bet around 90 instead of overbetting the pot though.

does anyone know what the odds would be that one of the other seven players held 9 10?

If none of them ever call preflop with 9T, then the odds are 0. The odds depend on whether they'd call preflop with 9T or not, or if they only call suited 9T, or if they only call with 9cTs because that's there lucky hand, etc. The "odds" depend on your read or some assumption.
