i didn't read the entire thread, but moderation in general should be quite simple. sticky exactly what is and what is not allowed in the forum and what the punishments are for breaking the rules (first offense, deletion and pm warning; second offense, one-day ban; and so on). apply the rules fairly and consistently -- none of this "he's usually a good poster" or "friends with a mod" garbage. a good moderator is like a good umpire/referee. when he's doing his job well, you shouldn't notice his existence. moderators should not be the personalities of a forum, they should just enforce the rules with little fanfare. it's a tad annoying that 2+2 hasn't gotten this right in the couple of years they've had mods.
(incidentally, i believe all mods should be anonymous (Mod11, Mod23, etc). a number of forums do this and it works well.) edit -- i don't mean to say that the moderation is poor in every forum as that is certainly not the case. |

wow apparently there was a coup while i was getting hammered in between classes while watching the tigers. i can't say i'm disappointed, this seems like a step in the right direction. hopefully those who were the impetus to this change realize how horrible they are and change their ways in a positive manner.
