He probably misses a game in each series (LA, SD), but no way he sits the whole week. The D'backs would have a fit if the best player on the Giants sat out both series. Of course, Selig is pretty spineless as a commish and probably wouldn't step in and make the Giants play him anyway. I think the Giants organization has more class than to to have Bonds sit for an entire week just so he can break the record at home.

Give him some days off to rest his "sore legs", (after the sunday game of course). Wait until the 7 game at home to do it.

Of course, Barry COULD just not swing for a HR but would he?

Does he really have such an authority to do so?

Since when can the commissioner come in and dictate a team's lineup?

If Bonds is hell-bent on breaking the record in SF, I assume he's going to do it in SF. Whether that means sitting out or not swinging for the fences.

I hope as a Giants fan if he cant do it this weekend that he does it in LA. The fact that I would enjoy the HR and they would hate it would make it worth it. Plus there could be a riot or something amusing, which is always something to root for..

I disagree. Steve Phillips made a great point tonight. When you see replays of Aaron's record-breaking homer, you see those two guys running down the basepath with him. Regardless of whether or not Barry himself breaking the record is good for baseball, having that moment eternally recorded as a bad moment with booing, riots, what have you, most certainly isn't.

not like it's going to be replayed over and over - only for 8 or so years until a-rod breaks the record

i think it'd be really classless for people to boo (so i expect them to) - i'd do nothing.

Yes. The Braves tried to have Aaron miss games on the road so he could break the record at home, and the commish (Bowie Kuhn) intervened. But like I said, just because Selig has the authority doesn't mean he'll do it.
