Default \" New and Shiny\" Wynnites,Bellagioites, and The Death of LV

At what point can progress be harmful to something ?

At what point do we stop caring ?

At what point do we care too much ?

B&M casinos are the last bunkers of "freedom in america"

Casino's used to say "Bring us your rich, your poor, your hungry, your thirsty, your socially challenged and we will give you the pleasures of life"

It was a haven of pleasure from your priests and family. A place to smoke, drink, gamble, and catch a show. A chance once again to escape your boring job and have a good time.

But soon my friends it will be all over.

There used to be a balance in LV a good mix of low roller joints, mid roller joints and your "ites" properties.

The strip has been decimated and continues to be all the time. Our loss of the Westward Ho, Boardwalk, etc and soon to be lost Frontier and Circus Circus is a sign of the future of LV.

A long strip of road that your normal everyday joe cannot go. Forever banned by 200 dollar a night rooms, 25 dollar minimun Blackjack, 100 dollar a ticket shows, 7 dollar beers, and 100 dollars for a ritz cracker and peanut butter.

At what point does it become too much ???

Low Rollers and Gamblers looking for the Best Game were forced downtown due to the "Borgataite" culture.

Even now it's getting worse More and More "New and Shiny" casinos are popping up and being planned for construction.

Corporations buying up downtown properties and getting rid of 10x odds, paying 6/5 on blackjack, it's a joke.

Gone are the Days of the Binions taking 1,000,000 dollar bets on the throw of the dice.

And in are the day of preppie swanky wannabe's living in the lower or middle class pretending to be rich while remortgaging the house just for one vacation.

In are the days of wannabe's and showoffs trying to be something they are not.

The end result..... sooner or later people will see what the "ites" culture has spawned and will refuse to pay 200 bucks for a bed and 200 channels of T.V. your NEVER going to watch anyway.

In the End it will be the OPPOSITE of The movie field of dreams.

"If you build it THEY WON'T COME" we can't afford it anymore. You have built roller coasters and Eiffel Towers and Fountains. But you have killed the gambling, we can't afford the rooms or the food. Our children weep when we can't afford to give them an hour in the video arcade.

All the new shiny buildings keep going up and everyone smiles at "progress" but they don't see the big picture... they don't see the end...

Gone are the 3/4 pound hot dogs,

Gone is the home of Wayne Newton

Gone are the days where you could gamble on a 100 bucks a day.

Gone are the days where vegas was alive and "fun and sin" were tops.

You ruined it all yes YOU .... I don't blame the corporations I blame the donkeys like YOU who swarmed en masses to see the fountains, and towers, to try to the food and taste the wine. The sin is gone, the gambling ruined, the topless shows going away for hancy pancy celine dion's.

It's the same in AC with the Borgataites impressing their will on everyone else.

But when all the hancy fancys find something else that has become "in" they will flock away. Leaving us the real people with nothing.

Thank you Bellagioites, Wynnites, Venetianites, Parisites
You INDEED did help build the greatest city on earth. But your also going to be the death of it.

So I make a plea Don't destroy everything we hold dear... leave town now.. Never come back take your shipithollaballas with you.

For when it's all over and I am proved right.
The Borgataites, Bellagioites, Wynnites, Parisites shall suffer my fury.

God I hate the Borgataites!!!!

Very interesting post. I'm not sure how I feel about this, especially because my Vegas experience is very limited. But I am very glad they aren't pushing it for "families" anymore.

It's like Govman took the joke "nobody goes there anymore, it's too popular" and turned into an entire page-long diatribe.

Govman is the guy that says you should take your woman to the Sirens of TI show and she should be greatful to be there. So yes, for him, the fall of Stardust, Boardwalk, Westward Ho, and Bourbon Street is sad, and the threats to IP, BarbaryCoast, Frontier, Riviera, and Sahara are ominous. Maybe he even misses the Klondike Casino on LVBlvd (but hey... the Happi Inn is still open).

I'm betting that as the spiffy new hotels go up we'll see the prices on some of the remaining middle-class hotels drop, but probably not all the way to the levels of IP and their remaining ilk. There's always going to be some strip property that is the oldest and grungiest. But perhaps this will be the death of the $45 strip hotel room. Maybe in two years you'll have to pay $65!

Funny, because I was going to use that exact example as the reason govman shouldn't worry.

You could hae written this exact article 10 years ago about family-friendliness (Familites WTF?) and how it would threaten the booze-fueled sex-infused Las Vegas atmosphere.

There will always be bargain options available. If those happen to move off strip, fine.

Because one thing I do believe is that the traffic will continue to get worse.
