Internet Strategy Different that Live?

Ive heard a couple people say, and have even read in a book about internet poker <not scott fischmans> that your live game strategy and your internet strategy should be different.

IS this true? Even in the slightest bit? I know people who do well online and live, but wonder if they have a set of weapons for each setting....

Live or online, the set of circumstances change based on how many people see the flop, what type of player they are, what they could possibly be playing, what they think I might be playing (if they are thinking at all or just playing their cards is a factor), so the set of weapons that I consider is based on those conditions - not whether it's live or online.

The theories of the game are the same - the applications of those theories change based on the situation.

There is a simple answer to this question OF COURSE there is. No need to even explain but im sure you can find out the not so subtle differences between the 2.

There are definite differences between internet play and live play. strategy can be similar of course, but you do need to take into account not only situations, but physical tells on people. Online you can only rely on betting patterns to get tells on players, but in live play you can rely on physical tells that players give off. I work in a small casino and have played online before with little luck for some reason. In a live game I have a much easier time winning. Internet players are some of my favorites to come in to live play. They give themselves away as soon as they sit by overbuying into the game, playing a much tighter style of poker than the usual players in my local game, and by giving off some easy to see tells that i shall keep to myself for profit's sake.

In my opinion internet play is much tighter abc poker, I have AA i raise. in a live game you can control the players more with table talk and will frequently play against the same people. I don't have a starting hand chart for them, i play them, not my cards.

Internet play is better.

50NL online is comparable to 200NL live.


Except in Vegas during WSOP when I've been told that 2000NL live plays like 200NL live from time to time.



Anyway yea online play is tougher to beat....very doable though. But it is tigher. Top pair or even over pairs are no longer the monsters they usually are in live play.

In internet play, the competition is much tougher at lower limits, and much, much tighter. An "all in" is often the nuts or close.

In live play, the games are typically much looser and far more passive as well. However, the rake is proportionally much larger and the games extremely slow, comparatively speaking. Additionally, N/L games of the same blind structure play much bigger live. By this I mean that at 1/2 NL online a $10 bet will fold the whole table. At many live games it will be viewed as a standard opening raise. You will get more free cards live, and players will more often have suspect kickers. Bad Aces seem to stick to alot of live players hands for some reason.
and of course live there is a ton more information available regarding your opponents, and a ton more time to process the info.

Finally, a 12 hr shift at a casino card room is "recreation."
A 12 hr shift multi-tabling online is sheer hell.

Obviously, these difference at a minimum will change both your starting hands and your interpretation of raises.

Winning a hand online is definately harder online than live. However, you get twice the number of cards per hour AND you can multitable. Thus, your BB/100 can be a lot lower online but you can play 10 times more hands online so making x dollars per hour is easier online, even though your opponents are better.
