It is. Registration is 180% of the cars price excluding sales tax.

Yeah, it is. Didn't seem right to me at first either. Denmark has to one of the worst countries to try to own a car in. So many people get their car modified to only have two seats, thereby allowing them to get the cheaper yellow "work" license plates.

I just looked it up. You 'only' pay 105% of some of the cars value and then 180% of the rest. The rules are here: http://www.skat.dk/display.aspx?oID=...&indhold=1

tennessee doesnt have an income tax, and it has around 2 dollar a gallon gas

It is consistently at or near the top of the every quality of life indicator done. There are a lot of great things as well as some that aren't so great.

It's not that bad, really. The accompanying brag is that I and most of the people in Denmark can afford cars at those prices. And of course all that tax money comes back in one form or the other. Like in socialized medicine, education, welfare and stuff like that.

So generally I'm happy to live here. It's only when winter starts and when I need to buy a car that I wish I lived somewhere warmer and with lighter taxes.
