Fair rake or am I a whiny nit?
Background: Group of mostly older guys (50+) that have been playing together for 20 years. I've been playing with them for 1 year. $2/5 NL...$200 buy-in. The set up has always been each player paying $10-$20 to cover food, drinks, etc.
The game recently moved to a new location. The host rakes $5 per hand, every hand, regardless of pot size. By my estimates, the cost of hosting the game is $150-$200, so I certainly want him to be reimbursed that amount. However, the rake works out to around $600 a night. Do I keep playing, or find another game. |

You'll eventually go broke in this game due to the rake. Play 12 hours straight the house wil have all the money

If the other players don't have a problem with this rake you should offer to host the game and collect the rake for yourself.

Re: Fair rake or am I a whiny nit?
I played in a $5/10 game like that years ago (first time I'd played above $.50/1). At the end of the night I was up $43, my friend was up $38, everyone else had lost, including one guy who was stuck almost a grand. Needless to say, I did not go back.
I don't think home games should charge a rake, not just because it's illegal. |

Re: Fair rake or am I a whiny nit?
Too high a rake for a game with a $200 buy in parameter. This is too much coming off the table, not a good long term game for you, play elsewhere. Perhaps you could speak to the host about upping the buy in or downgrading the rake to $3 or $4 a hand (or charging time, etc).
