According to Gimlin, the guy that is still alive, he seems to think there was a chance that Patterson might have tricked him into believing it was real. But he will not admit to a hoax.

According to the article, Gimlin had a rifle though and that would seem dangerous to stage something like that and not tell the guy with a gun (or let him carry the gun).

What makes this strange is that Patterson failed to pay Gimlin the portion of money he was suppose to get for the film, so at that point, it would seem he would have told the public it was a hoax.

or maybe Patterson loaded the gun with blanks or told him not to shoot unless they were in danger or something, who knows
