Although your claim is false, even assuming it is true there seems no reason that having been a xtrian would not be sufficient to understand what it is to be a xtrian.

I don't think following their god was essential here.
If they didn't have holy sites someone would still justifiably get offended at the US military bases, the intrusion culturally, economically and socially into another region's affairs. Are you suggesting a region full of atheists would be cool with such interference?
