well the no smoking was definitely a preference - not that I would NOT go to a game with smoking. It's just that I'd prefer no smoking. Same with no games literally taking place in the home - if it were a public place I'd prefer that.

Perhaps, I am skeptical cause I've never done it, but I don't want to go to a home game where five to six 2+2'ers get together and wait for a few people to be their prey for the evening.

I'm also a lil concerned over the fact that I might win a few buyins off some 20 yr old kid at 1/2 NL Holdem, and he gets pissed off at me and tries to take back the money given the fact it took him a month to make that and now he's lost it.

True. Actually, every game I've been to, that happens. I've had a gun pulled on me everytime too.

The world is a dangerous place, full of germs and bacteria and evil people - do not venture into it.

lol every time a gun pulled on you? either you don't play home poker games often/you stopped or you play with some violent people. lol. You just confirmed for me it's worth it to spend the extra 90 minutes in the car to go to Atlantic City than to find a home poker game with random people. lol.

This might actually be the worst thread ever. The last four posts make my head spin. What in the name of God, people.

As far as actual content here, more info on the Neptune home game would be good, I'm not that far from there and enjoy donkfest cash games.

I don't see what is hard to understand. I said I don't feel 100% secure meeting up with people I don't know and playing for hundreds of dollars at the table when there is no authority to keep people in check besides people's common decency - which is something I don't trust.

Like I said - public place - I'm good to go, but not in a private house.

Cincy.

It appears you have very few options. There are four venues one can typically play poker in. Online, casino, home game, underground game. Online isn't part of this conversation, and you're looking for an alternative to casinos, so we're left with two.

All home games and underground clubs, if you are looking for them thru a 2+2 referral, are going to be chock full of people you don't know and have never played. This much should be obvious. There is also a reasonable chance that there will be smoking, drinking, drugs, or other forms of unsavory activity, and some idiotic/loud/corrupt people. You really have no choice in this matter, it's the nature of the beast. Simply something you would have to deal with.

As far as getting beat up or robbed, this is something that happens in the movies. It is extremely unlikely that this will occur to you, so it really shouldn't be a concern.

As far as your last post, I'm not sure what you mean by a "public" place. Home games are private, they're in someone's house. Underground clubs wouldn't qualify as public places under any definition. Unless you're looking to go play in McSwiggin's Thursday Night Bar League $20 donkfest, there's not going to be anything in the way of "public" venues in which to play.

Did anyone here about the news of the NYC shooting where there was a HOME POKER GAME?! ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS I TOLD YOU SO!!!! AND THAT IS MY EXACT POINT AS TO WHY THESE TYPES OF THINGS CAN NOT BE TRUSTED!

When I heard this story, I felt sorry for this man, but at the same time, I felt so vindicated because this is the exact type of thing that I was talking about as far as security is concerned.
