The real question I would like to know is if Hosts at Casino AZ are allowed to check and raise. If not, I would love to set up a heads up match with Pat Poels. I think I could beat a player of this caliber pretty solidly if he wasn't allowed to check raise...

Actually the complaint that jackpot drop money is used in a promo like a freeroll which means that many of the tourists who are dropping money in the box will be unable to have a shot at it is a valid complaint.

It is very widespread and won't be changing anytime soon, but I have always thought this was a horrible practice..

Shill plays with Casino money. Prop plays with their own money. At Bay101 they use Prop players to get a table started or to keep them going. I asked one of the prop players why she didn't just play as a regular player, and the answer was she got miminum wage plus medical benefits.

I have no problem with prop players. The ones at Bay 101 are not very good and they help keep the tables going. I would NOT play at any table having shills.

Hosts can do whatever they want. They are not hired as shills and are there to specifically host/build/bring games to a cardroom.

Notice this was not the issue raised by the person I was responding to. In terms of promos like the monthly freerolls held at some casinos, I do agree that this is a bad deal for tourists who can't take advantage of the offer. At the Luxor, however, it is relatively easy for a tourist to get a return on the jackpot drop as the promos are frequent and easy to get into. Also, the return on the jackpot drop has much lower variance there since the 3 weekly freerolls are all chopped. Even if you're just in Vegas for the weekend you can get into a low-varience promo that is worth more than what you've lost to the jackpot drop.

Again, I'm not shilling for the Luxor. There are things the room should/needs to do to improve, but I think neither of the two complaints I've responded to hold up to scrutiny.

Why wouldn't you play at a table with shills. In a casino cardroom the shill is only going to post blinds and fold. can't hurt you.

Really -- maybe I'm worng but I didn't think they ran a freeroll like that. So If I come into town on Friday night. Play a little on Friday evening, play on Saturday, and maybe a little bit on Sunday morning before i get on a plane to return home, what freeroll have i qualified for?

I agree here. The Luxor is a bad room for casual tourists in my experience. Of course, I've refused to play there in the last 3 years so things my be different now. I was paying JP drop for freerolls only. No HH, no JP. Plus all the games are crap.

If I have to play in a JP room as a tourist, I strongly prefer HHJPs. I have a chance there and the hit frequency makes the room live.

When I play at home as a local, the BBJP is the king of JPs. When the JP hits 50K+, every fish in 3-5 states rolls in. I think Vegas is a strange promo market. Most rooms need locals to fill games, but the tourists have to feel like they're being treated fairly.
