Re: Poker Commandments
From a psychological standpoint, I wouldn't be religious about number 7. Sometimes it can be very satisfying to say, "I want to win $1,000 today," and to achieve it. Whereas it can then be a downer to get up a thousand and give a good portion of it back. Especially if you've been running bad, booking a win can be satisfying and metagame +EV even though quitting might be somewhat -EV.

Re: Poker Commandments
I wasn't crazy about #7 either. It depends on the player really. If someone has a problem with going up big and losing it back, a money goal could be very helpful.

Re: Poker Commandments
below is some notes i have similar to commandments that I've been using for MTT
============================ 1. Take your pit stops, just play a big hand??? RESET a. PIT: Patience Impulse control Think 2. Don’t get blinded by your hand, don’t fall in love with it either, it’s just ONE HAND, conversely, one hand can make a difference, just PIT 3. Take your stabs, but don’t get stubborn, is it worth it? PIT, LAY IT DOWN! 4. Tired at the end of a long session? Suck it up! Don’t be tired, but if you are, TIGHTEN UP, PIT 5. Ignore the loud mouth, tune him out, DO NOT let a guy get in your head, check your emotions at the door, and leave your ego at home; you can use it later when you got all that money, 6. Slow play is such a double edged sword, but you must use both sides… 7. Remember what mile of the marathon you are in, you can’t win a tourney in the first mile, but you sure can lose one, 8. If you get a stack, use it, but be careful, don’t get too reckless, pick your spots, PIT 9. The beginning is at the end. 10. SEMI tight and aggressive, that’s your style professor. 11. You’re a good player, just play, focus on decisions, not results, think about what you’re doing, be comfortable with your moves and let the cards fall as they may, have fun! |

Re: Poker Commandments
Well this is semantic nitpicking but it amused me as I was reading these (not to say the point are not valid... of course it was a good post otherwise)... but you were mixing up your Thou's and I's and some of the lines read kinda funny...
[ QUOTE ] Poker Commandments 1. Thou shalt not play a game for which I am underolled. [/ QUOTE ] My game selection should not depend on your bankroll [ QUOTE ] 2. Thou shalt not ignore the fact that I am either playing horribly or tilting. Thou shall instead simply quit for the day or take a breather. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not quitting if you're tilting!!! [ QUOTE ] 5. Thou shalt not gamble with money I cannot afford to lose. [/ QUOTE ] see #1 [ QUOTE ] 8. Thou shalt not play when I do not want to play. Thou shall only play when I am confident that I can and will win. [/ QUOTE ] I am gonna play when I feel like it. I don't care what your state of mind is!! [ QUOTE ] 9. Thou shalt not play a style or create an image that is profitable only if I remian at the table [/ QUOTE ] Stop sucking and I'll stop playing a style that profits against you (NOTE: This is just a joke about the wording, not actual comment on your game!! - yer prolly a lot better than me ) anyway... I don't mean to derail an otherwise good thread.. carry on! |
