From the ESPN article:

" Boras said during a telephone interview that Rodriguez made his choice because he was uncertain whether Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte would return to the Yankees. Boras said it became clear that the others wouldn't make a decision by Rodriguez's deadline to opt out -- 10 days after the World Series.

"Alex's decision was one based on not knowing what his closer, his catcher and one of his statured pitchers was going to do," Boras said. "He really didn't want to make any decisions until he knew what they were doing."

This is a bunch of BS and had 0% impact on A-Rod's choice.

lmao, i hope they dont expect anyone to believe that.

lol, that is so BS. "until he knew what they were doing". Umm, its the Yankees, they'll be doing Yankee things like spending money and contending.

But the Cubs did make a nice run, and LAA's Casey Kotchman fine young ballplayer and Figgies got a hose...

I said the same thing at the poker table a while back when someone asked me what I thought about Damon going to the Yankees.

Was Gammons out of line with his comments about ARod during the postgame?

He came across as a senile curmudgeon who could barely contain himself.

He is supposed to be a reporter, not a muckraker taking shots at someone that he obviously does not like.

it's a huge hole for the yankees to fill, but man, this move by arod has to leave a bad taste in fans' mouths. hal steinbrenner kinda just said fu, so this may hurt both the yanks and arod coz who else gives him the contact he wants?? angels have the means i guess, but i can't see too many teams being in this race, not boston anyway...cubs too??

either way, stay the [censored] away from the NL east

I have two reactions:

(1) Boras should not be blamed for anything. I'm sure he's merely following his client's general wishes.

(2) Arod simply decided he didn't want to be a Yankee, for whatever reason, and perhaps despite the real risk that he will not get as much money elsewhere.

Oh, one more thing: I think the business of refusing a personal meeting is totally overblown. People can communicate in other means, and I'm sure that was happening on some level.

one thing to consider is he doesn't have to get more money per year for this to be a +EV move. boras isnt an idiot, and could have realized even the best ever decline at some time.

that being said i think he gets more. barry [censored] zito just got 17 per, soriano got EIGHT YEARS at like 16.
