Looks like the Yanks are opening with 5/150 for the extension. That would be 8/231 total.

With that knowledge, I'd put the over/under at 7/225 on top of the 3/81 he's owed already, which gets him to the 10/300 everybody's been talking about.

This was about the best I could find.

Well, if a kid signs for $5 million and the agent gets a 3-5 percent cut, that's $150,000 to $250,000. But not many kids sign for $5 million. And after the kid signs, it might be 6-7 years before he's making decent coin in the big leagues -- if he gets there at all. Even Scott Boras told me that it took something like 8 years before he started running his agency in the black. You have to have patience and a strong stomach

I wonder what happens when the agent gets fired in the middle of a long term contract?

The article in the New Yorker this week about Boras said 5%.

Also found this tidbit from the same chat.

Derrik, My best advice is to go to the baseball winter meetings in December and check out the minor league job fair. They have a ton of great (albeit low-paying) jobs to help people get experience. The problem is, a lot of people want to start in the big leagues, and that's tough to do.

Buster Olney reports Yanks to offer a record-setting deal.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3082251

Possibly 5 years, 150m extension (in addition to his 3 years, 81m).

I can't imagine ARod getting more than this in free agency. So if his desire is really to be a Yankee, then he has to accept this offer.

I just love how the Yankees are basically timing all this to grab the headlines away from Boston after they win the WS.

A-Rod opted out. This means Boras knows he can get more than 8/$230m the Yanks were allegedly offering. It also means I have been totally WRONG with every post on this thread. I didn't think A-rod would go to a marginal team. I thought teams were smart enough to realize that A-rod has big injury and performance decline risks on any long term deal given his age. I can only hope history to eventually validate my viewpoint, say in about 4 years.

I can only hope the D'Backs sign him and win two or three WS and deal with the decline in five or six years! .
