Re: working on my deepstack play
[ QUOTE ]
if i riase to 1-1.5k and he pushes for the whole 5k then there is 6.5-7k in pot and 4k to call which i am commited to do, right? [/ QUOTE ]i didn't run the odds, but I dont think so. |

Re: working on my deepstack play
Yea, I don't think he's folding much here, definately not a hand like two pair. That's why everyone saying that raise is the best option befuddles me vs this opponent.

Re: working on my deepstack play
you said he doesn't like to fold, so i think this is defintely a spot where i like a call. also, i think with the turn lead he is going for a 3-bet too much of the time to make raising better than calling. it'd be a damn shame to have to throw away that sexy of a draw!!

[/ QUOTE ] If there's 7k and you're calling 4k, you need to win 36% to break even. Your chances vs top 2 (note that this is the best possible two-pair for you to be against) are 34%. Against TT, QQ-AA it's the same 34% (or worse if it's QQ-AA with a diamond.) If he has a lower flush draw with the 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] you're getting exactly the 36% you need. Most other hands (bigger flush draw, set) have you at 29-32%. A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] has you at 23%, which is about as bad as it gets. On the bright side, you're at 80% vs 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. |

Re: working on my deepstack play
Grim,
I think just calling in this situation saves you a lot of money. Assuming he is playing 2 pair at worst here you are only 30% to hit your hand and beat him. In the short run, statistically, you are barely going to hit one out of 3 times. Therefore, chances are, you are going to lose this hand a majority of the time. And, you said, he calls everything a lot, so you firing a bluff out on the river seems out of the question. An argument agaisnt that may be, " Yeah but that one time I do hit, I will get it all in and double up the 5k through him. So therefore, I should build the pot now." This however, really isnt that important given your description of the player. If hes calling everything, and even making big bluffs alot, it wont be hard for you to get the money in on the river anyways, even with the pot only being around 1k after your turn call. He seems eager to get the money in there... therefore, becuase he calls everything, the value in raising this turn goes WAY down. |

Re: working on my deepstack play
why do you float flop with nothing against someone who doesn't like to fold ?

Re: working on my deepstack play
The main benefit to raising (because you have no FE) is so you can get your stack in on a river you hit, right?
Well...what's the point if he never folds? Granted there exists some chance that he gets scared on a diamond, but you have 3 outs where he calls anything, including a shove if he PSB's the river, with practically his entire range, and 3 more where he won't always believe you/will always call with just a 7. If you had 10K I think this would be closer. |
