Default Downloading drivers after reformat

Hi,

I just reformatted my hard drive on an old computer, but no longer have the CD with all the drivers on it. I know that these drivers can be downloaded from the web, but I've had trouble locating them, even after several google searches.

Specifically, I need the display driver, because the display is currently only operating at 840x680 or whatever.

It's a Dell Inspiron 4000. I tried the drivers at dell.com, but the display driver that I found on there didn't seem to work (it said "Error: Please first install a VGA driver", which confused me...)

Thanks for any help, if there's a website that has drivers for these old systems, that'd be great!

Peter

There should be a service tag number on the back of your computer somewhere, key that into the support page on the dell website & it should list all the drivers for your computer.

If you still have the invoice from when you bought the PC you should be able to get the model number of the gfx card & you can search for that.

do you have the ATI graphics card or is it the bult in graphics? If it is built in you will probably need the chipset drivers. All I see is the ATI driver on the web page.
