Mason Malmuth wrote a very good article about why Four Color decks are bad for the game in one of the Poker Essays books (not sure which volume).

Obviously, Mike Caro disagreed with him on this (Caro created and pushed for a 4 color deck in the 1970s).

i can see that you may be able to better distinguish b/t suits, but it seams like trying to make out #'s from the 8-seat would be more difficult with that crappy lightish blue color than black or red.

also, i tend to look at my cards a few times before action is complete pre-flop but not after the flop. it doesn't happen a lot, but remembering 2 red K's or 2 black 6's is better than red and green 6 or whatever. that's a small gripe, but i really just don't see many pros.

i think the only reason for switching to 4-color would be to help people read hands. this is going to help bad players more than good ones, so i think that is bad anyway.

i have no problem with the way things are now and fear change.

The cost of the decks would be greater, due to the increase in ink variety used.

I hope they do go to four-color decks at some point...I use them in my home game as it is. I know some people don't like the shade of blue and green that COPAG uses, but this can always be changed by whatever company would be making casino decks.

For those of you who don't want it b/c you like when people mistakenly think they have a flush, why aren't you clamoring for a one-color deck to make this even more confusing?

You would think that some casino would try it, at least on some of the tables, to attract those players that would like it. Might be a niche that one place in Vegas/LA/AC could use to stand out from the rest. I like four color decks online, but I've never used one live. I wouldn't mind trying it, but I don't mind the traditional deck.

A little OT, but related: Where I think it would help is for the graphics on TV. Some networks, especially ESPN, have a very subtle difference between their club and spade, and sometimes it's hard to tell the difference even when you look carefully. On a graphic, you're looking at a bunch of players' cards at once, so colors would help take it all in faster.
