Default Comps Question

Will be in Vegas for around a week in July. Looking to bone up some more on Craps, as I haven't played this game too much in past trips.

The question is, if you are regularly playing green chips for pass/don't pass bets and I guess $10-$20 on numbers bets, should you be getting comps for your play?

I have to assume so, but I don't really know how much I am expecting to keep in play in order to get rated.

Also, can I expect to be rated in PaiGow by playing $25 a hand?

Thanks for any help.

I'm not an expert, but I know it depends on which casino. You'll have to bet much more to get comped at the nice hotels than the low end ones. You should be able to ask in advance what you have to bet and for how long to get comps, so ask to speak to someone before you begin playing.

It's not a good idea to bet larger or play longer than you would otherwise to get comps, unless the difference is really minimal.

Are you good at schmoozing? Find out what shift the casino manager works, and meet him directly (not through shift manager or floorman). Connect with them. Tell them what you play, what you want. Tell them how much you like the club, the name of your Kiwanis club -- and request a contact for reservations, etc. Use their name when you come in the club, and come in as often as possible when they're not there (many leave as early as 5pm). Make sure the guy likes you.

A lot of floor people won't give a bad rating to a guy they think has juice. Once they all think that way, mediocre play is always forgiven -- and the illusion becomes reality.

Yeah, that level of play will get you something in comps.

If you don't have a player's card from the casino, ask for one.

The hip, slick and cool way to be sure you get rated for all your play is to just toss in your card along with your buy-in money.

A lot of casinos only give about half the usual comps on Pai Gow Poker.

comp rate for craps and blackjack is usually 20% of your average flat bet. when you say "numbers bets", that means placing when the point is on? probably about the same then. I don't think you're throwing $10-20 on hardways and C/E. so as a green chipper you're probably gonna get about $5/hr on your players card, and then whatever discretionary comp the floor might throw you extra for a long session.

pai gow rate will be slightly lower because of the slower number of hands per hour, and frequent ties with the dealer.

Thanks guys, this is what I thought. My main concern was giving action that would otherwise earn me something but not getting it because I didn't ask for it.

Don't ever play higher than what you normally would in an attempt to "earn" better freebies. discretionary comps are exactly that, discretionary. it's much more important to build a good vibe with the floorperson overall than try and "sneak" in a big bet in order to cheat a better rating. if you're normally a $25 player, how often would you have to be successful fooling the computer that you're playing $50, to offset the potential loss of that extra $25 wager, plus the risk that it won't get noticed anyway? at 20% comp rate, you may argue that it's worth $20 in comp for a 2-hour session vs. $10. but a written comp for free buffet is worth more than the $10 difference since it doesn't deduct from your card balance, and it involves nothing more than being nice and asking.
