Default Overpairs in omaha hi/lo?

Hi, I'm a newbie at all poker and being NLHE kinda guy, i see overpairs as golden. However, i dont know how good they are in PL Omaha/8 So, how did i play this hand? bad? Good? Is block betting a correct thing to do in Omaha/8 as well? And also, is limping here correct? Cheers.

Fold preflop! Overpairs are weak hands... you're really looking to make a set. Sometimes aces can bail you out for high if your opponent was on a draw... and sometimes aces are good heads up. It is SO easy to make at least 2 pair in O8 that they are no good. In this hand everyone folded because their draws didn't come in and they didn't have an 8. you were lucky to get away with this pot.

Also, your hand is garbage. Look up some preflop o8 standards.

Sure...

1. O8 Poker

2. Buy "Winning Omaha 8 Poker" by Mark Tenner & Lou Krieger. It's for limit O/8 but a good book for beginners nonetheless. It has a great section on starting hand selection.

3. Buy Ray Zee's book, "High-Low-Split Poker, Seven-Card Stud and Omaha Eight-or-better for Advance Players." It's more advanced than Tenner & Krieger, so read their book first.

This should give you a good start. Hope it helps.

Disagree about KK/QQ/JJ being garbage, at least at these limits. I play almost all KKxx and some of the better QQ/JJ hands, and all show a modest profit in my PTO database (though all below A2xx or AAxx, unsurprisingly). However, as overpairs they're basically worthless in PLO8; these are no-set no-bet hands. They also become less profitable once you face opposition that doesn't play lower pairs as much, and is capable of folding lower sets / lower full houses. So I agree that if you want to develop good habits for playing against stronger opposition, you should fold all but the most coordinated high pair hands; but, played cautiously, these hands are profitable at microlimits.
