Magic as a game is much more complicated than poker, but there are similarities, you use math and knowing your opponent can matter too. I don't think it would make much sense to start playing Magic now to improve your poker game...just play poker and get better at it. People who played Magic first seem to do well at poker but it takes much longer to become decent at magic than it does with poker. I played magic before I knew anything about poker, and by the time I was good I just thought differently about things and I think it helped me to learn poker much faster.

A ton of the former magic pros play Poker now. Chris Pikula (Invitational winner) posts around 2p2 a bit.

i was reading david williams wikipedia page and noticed he used to be a magic pro, and i remembered seeing some posts about anugly jewish kid who does good in poker who also started off with magic.anybody know what it is about this game that relates to poker? from what ive read its a complex strategy game even though the pictures/ story of it are kinda gay. i play the bodog $5 super turbo sngs for fun, i have a good job but id like to get better at poker. i like strategy games and figure if this game can give me a better understanding of poker, it might be worth the shot. just wanted to know if any ooters had any experience with this or have some suggestions, etc..

Current ME champ did a lot of praying to God at the final table.

Note to self; find religion with the most Gods and during next tourney start praying wildly in every direction

No, false reasoning... The Magic card game has been played successfully by many poker pros and touted as a strategy game with many similar lines of thinking. There is a very real chance that it may in fact relate to and/or improve his poker game based on the evidence and testimony of others. This is decidedly not the case for the orange and for praying. I hope you see the error of your posts.

sigh don't start. it's more like, people who had already been competitive for years got into poker and had a head start because of the logical thinking involved. also they had people to sweat/discuss with because they were already friends IRL.

starting to play isn't gonna do anything for you wrt poker.

Name one player at the final table who constantly prayed to God and didnt win. Ah, didnt think so. Case closed.

Dear Heavenly Father, please show these poker Heathens the error of their ways. Please work your divine plan threw me and show them the nuts. PS. Ship it

Oh, and Magic did nothing to improve their game that wouldnt have learned playing anything else competativly. Play Chess. Scrabble. Kerplunk. Its not then game of magic that made them better. Some people have a natural talent for games. The like to compete, they work they're ass of to get better, they study, they good reasoning skills. Magic didnt make them better poker players, it was just the game they focused their abilities on first.

Unless being a Magic player would let you summon a troll to smite annoying players like Hevad Khan. Then I might learn too.
