Re: Fave song lyrics
Jethro Tull, Wind Up
When I was young and they packed me off to school and taught me how not to play the game, I didn't mind if they groomed me for success, or if they said that I was just a fool. So I left there in the morning with their God tucked underneath my arm -- their half-assed smiles and the book of rules. So I asked this God a question and by way of firm reply, He said -- I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays. So to my old headmaster (and to anyone who cares): before I'm through I'd like to say my prayers -- I don't believe you: you had the whole damn thing all wrong -- He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays. Well you can excomunicate me on my way to Sunday school and have all the bishops harmonize these lines -- how do you dare tell me that I'm my Father's son when that was just an accident of Birth. I'd rather look around me -- compose a better song `cos that's the honest measure of my worth. In your pomp and all your glory you're a poorer man than me, as you lick the boots of death born out of fear. I don't believe you: you had the whole damn thing all wrong -- He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays. |

[ QUOTE ]
The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out And if a double-decker bus Crashes into us To die by your side Is such a heavenly way to die And if a ten-ton truck Kills the both of us To die by your side Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine [/ QUOTE ] This will be played at my wedding if I ever get married. Epic love song. |

Re: Fave song lyrics
PJ - I Am Mine
The north is to south what the clock is to time. Theres east and theres west and there everywhere life. I know that I was born and I know that Ill die. The in between is mine. I am mine. And the feeling it gets left behind... Oh the innocence broken with time... Were different behind the eyes, theres no need to hide. Were safe tonight. |

Re: Fave song lyrics
[ QUOTE ]
They all sat around in a circle They were all laughing and all telling lies Then the tall one he bumped in a dollar He said boys I've got nothing to hide Now if the King and the Queen stood together Then the ace he would not be to blame And if the cards were all laid on the table Then love could be more than a game And if the stars didn't shine on the water Then the sun wouldn't burn on the sand And if I were the man you wanted I would not be the man that I am And I have seen my share of long nights And I have told my share of lies And I have run into the darkness When I saw the look in your eyes But if the night didn't lie in the darkness Then the daylight would be hard to find And if the truth didn't turn to a weakness I would have never have spoken my mind And if the stars didn't shine on the water Then the sun wouldn't burn on the sand And if I were the man you wanted Then I would not be the man that I am So if you're going out to Carolina Then don't linger in New Mexico And if you think of the one there behind you Then you might not feel so alone And if the stars didn't shine on the water Then the sun wouldn't burn on the sand And if I were the man you wanted I would not be the man that I am [/ QUOTE ] - Lyle Lovett |

Re: Fave song lyrics
Good to see Gil Scott Heron mentioned. The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is clearly his best, but I'll add another.
Whitey On The Moon - Gil Scott Heron A rat done bit my sister Nell. (with Whitey on the moon) Her face and arms began to swell. (and Whitey's on the moon) I can't pay no doctor bill. (but Whitey's on the moon) Ten years from now I'll be payin' still. (while Whitey's on the moon) The man jus' upped my rent las' night. ('cause Whitey's on the moon) No hot water, no toilets, no lights. (but Whitey's on the moon) I wonder why he's uppi' me? ('cause Whitey's on the moon?) I wuz already payin' 'im fifty a week. (with Whitey on the moon) Taxes takin' my whole damn check, Junkies makin' me a nervous wreck, The price of food is goin' up, An' as if all that [censored] wuzn't enough: A rat done bit my sister Nell. (with Whitey on the moon) Her face an' arm began to swell. (but Whitey's on the moon) Was all that money I made las' year (for Whitey on the moon?) How come there ain't no money here? (Hmm! Whitey's on the moon) Y'know I jus' 'bout had my fill (of Whitey on the moon) I think I'll sen' these doctor bills, Airmail special (to Whitey on the moon) |

Re: Fave song lyrics
Some awesome lyrics mentioned here. A very wide variety as well - from Pink Floyd to Gil Scott Heron. There are some eclectic people here. I have way too many favorite songs to list, but here some lyrics to songs I'm listening to now:
The Waterboys - The Whole of the Moon ...you climbed on the ladder With the wind in your sails You came like a comet Blazing your trail Too high Too far Too soon You saw the whole of the moon. Tool - 46&2 ...I've been crawling on my belly Clearing out what could've been. I've been wallowing in my own chaotic And insecure delusions. I wanna feel the change consume me, Feel the outside turning in. I wanna feel the metamorphosis and Cleansing I've endured within The Jam - A Town Called Malice Better stop dreaming of the quiet life - 'cause its the one we'll never know And quit running for that runaway bus - 'cause those rosy days are few And - stop apologizing for the things you've never done, 'cause time is short and life is cruel - But it's up to us to change This town called malice. Jane's Addiction - Ocean Size ...I want to be more like the ocean, no talking and all action. |
