Re: Consider this.........
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I submit that "America the Beautiful" by Ray Charles SHOULD be our National Anthem. [/ QUOTE ] It is by far the best version of the song; but surely he did not write it did he? [/ QUOTE ] Of course not. |

Re: Consider this.........
[ QUOTE ]
1. The Dixie Chicks at the Raiders-Buccaneers Super Bowl. Before they pissed everyone off, this was melodic harmony at its purest. [/ QUOTE ] Wow, I forgot all about this. That was insanely good. [ QUOTE ] Just went through all the links here and I still find the link I gave as the most emotional. [/ QUOTE ] It was really cool because of the raw energy the fans gave off thoughout the performance; but I thought the actual singing was just good not great. [ QUOTE ] It's your anthem and you can sing it, or like the way it's sung, any way you please, but for me the versions like the Marvin Gaye one are just plain perverse. I couldn't listen to a full minute of that one. [/ QUOTE ] I understand that he sung the song with alot of soul; but perversity never crossed my mind. I guess alot of people are just going to always associate soulful singing with sexual innuendo. |

Re: Consider this.........
Dixie Chicks version--meh (really, no political bias, I just found the performance to be pedestrian).
Celine Dion--I can't believe you guys can't recognize her awesome talent. Seriously. I'd take her over Whitney Houston any day. |

Dixie Chicks version--meh (really, no political bias, I just found the performance to be pedestrian). [/ QUOTE ] WTF really? I get chills every time. Listen to the soaring harmony on "and the rockets red glare..." Hm. [ QUOTE ] Celine Dion--I can't believe you guys can't recognize her awesome talent. Seriously. I'd take her over Whitney Houston any day. [/ QUOTE ] Celine is talented but that over-emoting and hand waving she does makes me want to snap her brittle little body in half. Whitney's pipes will bring Jesus into your heart, instantly. |

Banner song
Dress it up any way you want it and arrange it every which way but the music is military music. And the lyrics are war lyrics.
Jimi Hendrix got perfect pitch that day. (Served in the 101st Airborne.) |

Re: Best Rendition of the (american) National Anthem
One of the best versions I heard was from a 9 year old girl at an Angels/Mariners game in California last year. 13 inning game where everyone left around the 11th . Just before Mom's day.
She belted it out and hit every note with power. It made the furr go up on your arm, it was that good. b |
