Salvia Divinorum (Legal LSD): How is this not more popular?

Ok, so yesterday I read this article in the San Francisco Chronicle on the attempts to regulate Salvia Divinorum, which is basically a very strong hallucinogen with no addictive effects that is currently LEGAL in 46 States! Unlike LSD, salvia is very short in length (talking minutes as opposed to hours with LSD) and has no nasty side-effects, like destroying your brain. The article claims it has no chemicals that cause addiction.

I asked some of my more drug-affluent friends, none of them had ever heard of it before.

Has anyone ever used this stuff here? Would you ever consider recreationally using this, apparently the drug is better than cocaine? Finally, how is this thing not EVERYWHERE?!?

It's not that enjoyable. It's definitely not a party drug. Doing it in groups doesn't make it fun either. There have been threads on this before, and that's what others (including myself) have reported.

I've used it... "better than cocaine" is um... wrong. It's ok if you smoke a whole bunch of it. It tastes extremely vile (and I smoke cigs/weed no problem), you have to hold it in forever and the "trip" is really more disconcerting than fun and entertaining. It's not a bad compliment to shrooms/weed but by itself it's just not as great as it sounds. I would say it's overall probably not worth it, though as it's legal there's certainly no reason not to give it a try if you're interested. It's just a bit disappointing.

ok so i guess it's not the most +EV drug on the market, but doesn't its non-addictive, non-illegalness make up for it's less than stellar high?

But then again if you're into drugs addiction/legality may not be first and foremost on your mind.

Snowball I did try searching for previous posts, nothing came up though. I've seen a few youtube videos, looks like people just get laughing fits.

I think it's the lyceaum.org or something that has trip reports from all different drugs. Read the salvia reports, and you might not want to try it. Any time I read more than one report about people turning into zippers, I get a little worried.

I've used it. Not that great at all. It's not that annoying to smoke properly, but you will need a bong and a butane lighter.

I'd definitely say you should give it a shot -- I can PM you a site to get it relatively cheap along with a 10% off bonus code (no, I have no affiliation to the site; a friend gave it to me when I wanted to try it, so it's only fair to share) -- but don't get your hopes up.

I just did it the other day, and you really don't remember much from the trip. The first trip is definitely the best. The trip is also quite variable; my friends have had totally different experiences than I, and you'll have different experiences as you try it multiple times. Just two things:

1. You will not be in control of your body. For example, I smoked in the alley, and got back in my room somehow by the time the trip ended.

2. You must have sober sitters and be in comfortable surroundings, at least for your first time.

I bought like 10 grams of it a couple of weeks back, and have about half left. Not even sure if I'll smoke the rest of it.

Erowid has trip reports of it, but really, they don't do the drug "justice." I hate to be cliche, but you almost have to try it. If you're interested, you can PM / IM me and I'll tell you how my trips / trips of my friends went.

I've done it a few times, I always get really hot and start sweating when I do it. Other times I've felt the sudden urge to get up and go somewhere, which usually ends up with me walking down the alley behind my house for no reason.

It only lasts like 15 minutes and it's pretty weird. That said, I don't see how salvia is legal and weed is not.

Also, you need the concentrated stuff that they sell at head shops. The normal stuff won't do enough.
