Braid, Avail, Samiam, HWM, Leatherface

Now we're talking...

I would have picked HWM's 'No Division' out as my favourite of theirs, with FFTHG close behind. As a side-brag, I am playing with Chuck Ragan when he comes over to the UK.

Avail - Over the James is probably my favourite - I'm not usually one for slicker production but Richmond's finest somehow sound amazing on this. Dixie is ace though.

Samiam - You Are Freaking Me Out probably gets the most listenage but 'Dull' off Astray is amazing.

I feel like I should mention Discount here as well...

Lately, I've been replaying over and over three CDs:

The New Pornographers - Challengers

Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

The Soundtrack to the movie "Once."

I can't get enough of them.

Check out pics here:

There are way too many cool shows in this three month period in my area.

Last Friday I went to the aforementioned National show. The next day I saw Magnolia Electric Co. and an awesome alt-country band called the Golden Boots.

This Saturday I am going to Wall of Sound Festival to see Explosions in the Sky, Pinback, and whoever else is out there.

Then in the upcoming months are Spoon/New Pornos, Final Fantasy, The Hold Steady, Caribou, Stars, Of Montreal, M.I.A., and Architecture in Helsinki.

Anyone else been to/going to any cool shows? ACL TR from Nath would be cool too.

Oooh, thanks for reminding me. Magnolia Electric Co. is gonna be playing at the Blender Theater at Gramercy in NYC on 9/29. I need to get tickets!

Also, Nina Nastasia will be playing the Mercury Lounge in NYC on 10/3, which I hope to be going to as well.

The latest albums I've picked up recently that I dig are Lily Allen (Alright, Still) and Peter Bjorn & John (Writer's Block). I really like Lily Allen in particular-- very, very pop, but very good and with a pull-no-punches sense of humor.

I haven't listened to Peter Bjorn & John as much, but so far I dig it, and I really like "Let's Call It Off" (which may or may not be the single-- I heard it on Sirius).

Anyone else have any opinion on either of these?

Wow. Where the eff was I last year. Listening to PB&J now and halfway through it's just tremendous. One of the best I've listened to for a long time. It sounds at once familiar and original.

Noodle. Use your noodle. Noodle. Do the noodle dance.

This is just the first thing I thought of when I read this. A parent may or may not recognize the song/reference.

Looking for the actual tracks in question to see what you're really referencing.
