that's a very nice dress.

look, i am being pretty harsh, it's very tough on poor single mothers out there (especially women of color). raising a kid on your own is certainly tougher than about anything i've done in my life. so, good for you that you have a stable financial outlook and have the means to look out for your daughter.

i disagree with some of your spending and i think she would be better off in the long run learning about the value of investing, saving, and working hard, rather than spending a lot of money on highly depreciable consumer goods and stuff for herself that she really doesn't need. i am not saying this out of some puritanical notion that kids have it too easy, but because i have worked with many teenagers from poor backgrounds, broken homes or other adverse circumstances, and the first thing that happened to a lot of them when they got out on their own was they started living well beyond their means due to unreasonable expectations.

MissT,

Don't listen to NT!, he is clearly jealous because his parents didn't throw him a thirteenenarena. You know what he got for his birthday when he turned thirteen? It was a banner [censored]' year for the nothumb family - he got a carton of cigarettes. His old man grabbed him and said "Hey! Smoke up NT!"

Oh, my friend, the parties we have for our youths ok...roasting hyenas by an open fire, stoning the adulterers, pin the tail on the jackal, such fun.

We usually take the birthday friend to a good dinner. Bar afterwards. Haven't had or been to a birthday party since I was in high school.

While I also don't agree with the spending of missT74, it's her money and her daughter.

Last couple birthdays have been pretty uneventful for me. Maybe a dinner here or there. They've been like any other day otherwise.

I'm depressed now.
