longer driver!?!?

im wondering if anyone else has experimented with longer than average (45 inch) drivers and what their results have been like? I just recently stuck a grafaloy blue X in my driver and said [censored] it im only cutting an inch off leaving it at 47 inches, took it to the range and just killed it prob 30-35 yards past my previous distances, discuss.

It goes longer and less straight.

In case your response is that you were hitting it straight: I'm not saying you won't hit it straight, but it should be clear why it's going to be harder to hit it straight.

im a pgm student i understand general physics of the game, my misses where more of a power fade and my nutted drives were slight draws. I think the power fade misses is due to that im probably closer to an S than an X in stiffness but figured the shaft would play a little weaker due to added length, again ive only hit maybe 50-60 balls with it so i guess time will tell.

no im pretty sure they moved restrictions from 50 inches to 48 though, they all hit it so long theres not really a need for it.

most tour guys use shorter than 45 for accuracy

Average for 2004-2006 was 44.5 inches.

Back when Drivers were 43" standard, I had Henry-Griffitts make me a 47", 5* Driver.

What I discovered was that I could hit it long and straight if:

I didn't stand too far away.
I didn't try to hit it hard, or soft, or low, or high, or draw it, or fade it.

If I just tried to do the fundamentals soundly, and swing in balance, I had good results.

I ended up with the simple thought of "Driving 101" (basic, simple, fundamentals), and it has served me well.
