Default HD or BlueRay

If you own both a PS3 and an Xbox 360, when you go to buy a new movie that you want on new technology, would you grab the HD version or the Blue Ray version and why?

Get whichever is cheaper. While Blu-Ray was rumored to be inferior when first released, most people say there is no difference now.

And it's called HD-DVD. Not just "HD".

I don't actually have the ps3 yet, but I know me and I will end up with one.

I also forgot that the xbox was capable of playing the HD disks which is why I haven't bought any of those when i've made my new movie purchases.

I just figure'd i'd pose the question to see if people were leaning one way or the other over which technology was better. Also, I figure'd I'd get to read some good sony bashing as well.

Don't you have to get another drive or something to play the disks on the xbox?

I work at a company that manufacutres the discs. We have machines that make BD and machines that make HD and we have no idea which is going to win out. We do know that we will probably be trashing some machines (each over $1M when we paid for them) in the not so distant future. I can't really answer OP's question though because I'm not, nor do I see myself, being a consumer of either.

If based on a soley technical point of view BD will win out because HD cannot hold enough data. But if stuff like this was based on technical specs then we would have been using Beta instead of video cassette.

Blu-Ray was inferior early because the first discs released were compressed wrong and mastered poorly.

Now they're virtually the same.

Blu-Ray has the space advantage now, but both formats are adding more layers in the future to dramatically expand storage space and for the foreseeable future space is a non-issue anyways.

There aren't a ton of movies available in both formats, so this shouldn't come up too often. I'd choose on price or whichever player you prefer using if you have both.

No reason to wait. It's not like your HD-DVD discs will explode if Sony wins (or vice versa).
