Default A Freeway Dare

Here's the dare/challenge.

You pick a major freeway and a time and date. And, you have to pick an on- and off- ramp that is 1 mile apart. Now, you must drive onto the freeway via the off-ramp, and drive the wrong way to the on-ramp and exit.

How much money would it take for you to do this? You can drive as quickly or as slowly as you'd like, but you have to go the full 1 mile distance from off-ramp to on-ramp.

I'd do it in the portland area during rush hour for like ten bucks. Everyone would back up and apologize for being in my way.

This depends largely on what time of day you can do it, eg at 3 am on a tuesday I might do it for little more than the court costs / ticket fees. At rush hour on a friday obviously this would take a LOT of money.

That would be an enormous amount of money.

I wouldn't do it at all. I have been in a car when somebody accidentally entered an offramp going the wrong way and I wouldn't have called it a thrilling experience. Besides, even if I was willing to do it for the money, what about the people I might hit? Not fair for me to put their lives at risk, especially when they have no say in the matter.

3 am on Tuesday seems like a bad choice.

Is there 0, 1, or 2 shoulders?

Anyone who would willing do this is a [censored] [censored] and deserves to be killed. Killed without killing anyone else, which very well might happen if this stunt is attempted.

Can I drive onto the offramp in reverse and then just inch backwards in the emergency lane until I get to the previous onramp?

if someone is going slow enough with their hazards on, this should not be dangerous at all. fwiw, just drive slowly in reverse when traversing the on/off ramps.

about ten years ago in austin (technically in a suburb of austin) a young guy drank himself silly at a strip club on the interstate. when he left he was so drunk, he did just what youre suggesting when he got on the interstate. he quickly had a head on collision and died.
