Re: What\'s your ball of choice?

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Maxfli Revolution which they don't make now, so I guess I'll be switching to Maxfli Fire. Revs were just as good as PRoV's and half the price. [/ QUOTE ] Are you serious about the Revs??? I was in a local hardware/auto chain store y'day. I saw some of these marked down from $32 to $22 for a 2dozen pack. Seemed good. I got to the cashier and they scanned up at $8.96 - FOR 24 BALLS! They had a bunch left, but I'll try them first today. Maybe I'd better scoop them quick if I like them. Rainbow... [/ QUOTE ]They don't have quite as much bite, but on the other hand they don't mark as quickly either. They are priced that low becasue they are last year's ball, so the ball snobs wont buy them now. Buy the lot. [/ QUOTE ] Carefull with this, The revolution was a superior ball a few years ago, before maxfli got bought out. It was the last of the great wound balls. Then the parent company was closing out their stock of them. I've heard that some of the current ones being sold under the revolution name are a completely different ball. |

Re: What\'s your ball of choice?
How good a player do you need to be for the ball you play to make any noticeable difference?
I've always assumed that as someone who never tries to spin the ball back, or draw it, or fade it, that it doesn't matter what ball I play. I've never bought a new golf ball in my entire life, and the balls I play are generally ones I find on the course. I'll only not play a ball if it's damaged. Am I missing a way to cut out a lot of strokes (I generally shoot in the 90-105 range)? -McGee |

Re: What\'s your ball of choice?
At your scores, pick a $1 or so ball that flies far if you are a short hitter, or goes straight (Callaway HX Blue?) if you're a long hitter. A ProV1x, IMO, won't be worth the 200% premium, plus they will fly the coop.
18-20ish HC (could probably be 14-16 right now if I played more often): I like the ProV1x and ProV1 when my irons are on fire, and I like the Callaway HX Tour 56 or HX Tour when my tee game is carrying me. I try to ride the hot hand... hopefully at any moment at least one hand is hot. I love Callaway balls, the HX Blue and Red are nice low to mid price balls. I like shag balls, and when I am cold I generally stick to them until I start grooving shots again. |

Re: What\'s your ball of choice?
Good balls are good because they're best around the greens...if you don't mind spending the extra $$$$ on the good balls, you will probably see SOME improvement in your score, even if you're a 30 cap...but not much at all (maybe a stroke or two)...GOOD players see a fairly big difference with the good balls because they're more exacting with their short games and need the ball to do more for them when they're <150yrds

Re: What\'s your ball of choice?
Now it is more of a mental thing than anything else but the Pro V1 are the only balls I can consistantly hit well. When I look down and see something else on the tee it just doesn't feel or look right.
If I can block it out of my mind I do OK with other balls but why hit inferior balls (other than price) when I get more distance and better performance with the Pro Vs? |
