Default Malloreon II: Return of the Rivan King GAME THREAD

The Malloreon

Belgarion has slain the evil God Torak and is now the King of Riva. The prophecy has been fulfilled--or so it seems. For there is a dire warning, as a great Evil brews in the East. Now (Bel)Garion once again finds himself with the fate of the world resting on his shoulders.

When Garion's infant son, Geran, is kidnapped by Zandramas, the Child of Dark, a great quest begins to resuce the boy. Among those on the dangerous mission are Garion and his wife, Queen Ce'Nedra, and the immortal Belgarath the Sorceror and his daughter, Polgara. They must make their way through the foul swamps of Nyissa, then into the lands of the Murgos. Along the way, they will face grave dangers--captivity, a horde of demons, a fatal plague--while Zandramas plots to use Garion's son in a chilling ritual that will make the Dark Destiny supreme.

Default Re: Malloreon II: Return of the Rivan King GAME THREAD

The Followers of Light:

Belgarion, The Rivan King and Child of the Prophecy of Light. One extra vote for the person he openly voted that day. Sorcerer power: Clemency. He may stop a lynch, once. If he does so, there will be no lynch that day. If he is killed, Eriond inherits the mantle of the Child of Light, along with his voting powers and Clemency, if unused.

Polgara: Sorceress. Power: Divination. Standard seer powers, one peek per night, starting after the first game day. She is immune to the powers of Mengha, and will kill him if he targets her and her name is rand()ed.

Belgarath: Sorcerer and Aldur's First Disciple. Powers : Sanctuary and Augury. Sanctuary may be used just once, and grants kill protection to one player for an entire day and night cycle. They may not be killed via Sorcery during that timeframe, although the player may be killed by votes. Augury works as Divination, but may only be used once per game.

Beldin: Sorcerer. Power: Obfuscation: He submits a target each night. That person is shielded from peeking by Dark or by Neutrals. He may not shield himself from peeking. If Dark or Neutral tried to peek Beldin’s target, Beldin is notified, but does not learn which team attempted the peek.

Poledra, Beloved Mother of Polgara and Wife of Belgarath: Woman Who Watches: knows the identities of Polgara, Beldin, and Belgarath.

Silk: Prince Kheldar, Beloved of Liselle and Master Spy. He controls an additional vote, which he casts in private by Pming the mods. Also, he may revoke his public vote, if he chooses. If Liselle succeeds in locating him, they form a masonry and may communicate outside the thread.

Liselle: Hunter, Beloved of Silk and Master Spy. Once a night, she may look for Silk. If she finds him, they form a masonry and can communicate outside the thread at any time. Also, if she fails to find Silk, she has a 1/3 chance of learning if her target is good or evil. Liselle is a liberated woman and if she finds Silk, she continues her spying activities (her 1/3 seer peeks). She can have it all: the marriage and the career.

Sadi: Secret Assassin: Has 1 vial of poison and 1 deadly snake (total kills: 2) that he may use at any time on any person. He may take either kill as a day kill or a night kill. If he chooses a day kill, the kill will happen as soon as the mods can post the kill writeup, unless he specifies a later time, which he may do if he chooses. The deadly snake kill will not work against a good power character or against Toth or Zakath, as Sith (the snake) won't bite someone she knows (if this happens, Sadi uses up his snake kill). It will be effective against all other evils and regular good players, however. The poison will work on all players, good and evil. A submitted kill is irrevocable. If he targets the Seeress of Kell, his kill fails and he learns that he targeted Cyradis.

Durnik: Interpreter. May receive one-way communications from Toth via the mods. Communication is only at night and is limited to one per night. He is not given Toth’s identity and he may not reply.

Eriond: Chosen of Garion. Is told he is an ordinary character. Upon Garion's death, learns who he is and assumes the powers of the Child of Light.

Light Convertible to Dark:

Ce’Nedra: Queen of Riva and Mother of Geran. Her love for her missing son, Geran, is tearing her apart and dividing her loyalties. She can not bear the thought that he might need to be harmed to save the Followers of Light. Neutral may convert her to Dark at any time within the first 5 game days. Her son, Geran, must be alive for Ce’Nedra to be converted.

The Followers of Dark:

Zandramas: Child of the Prophecy of Dark. One extra vote for the person she openly voted that day. Sorcerer power: Divination. Standard seer powers, one peek per night, starting after the first game day. If she is killed, Geran becomes the Child of Dark and assumes her powers of voting and Divination.

Naradas Grolim Priest: Power: Corruption. May change one other player's vote each day. The other player must actually vote that day and the vote must be valid. (So if he names Silk and Silk has nullified his own vote, the vote is a no-go.) If he corrupts a double voter, both votes are corrupted. In addition, he may nullify his own vote if he wishes. This would be effectively unvoting in private.

Mengha: Grolim Priest: Power: Summoning. May summon a demon any night or day to kill on his behalf. Demons are by nature unpredictable, though, and Mengha does not have perfect control over his summoning. Each time Mengha Summons, he chooses two targets that the demon may attack. The kill is rand()ed between the targets. For every previous kill, Mengha’s name is added to the rand() once. So his first kill, he has no risk of death. For his second kill, he has a 33% chance of death. For his third kill, a 50% chance, and so forth.

Geran: Chosen of Zandramas. Is told he is an ordinary good character and is unknown to the baddies. Upon Zandramas's death, learns who he is, assumes the powers of the Child of Dark, and joins night chat.

Two unpowered Followers of Dark.

Dark Convertible to Light:

Kal Zakath, Emperor of Mallorea: Power: Imperial Privilege. Once considered to be the future hope of Mallorea, the brightest and most loving of any imperial prince in millenia, Zakath's personal tragedy has transformed him into a bitter and vengeful man. Still, somewhere within him lives the gentle caring youth he once was. On any one day Zakath may assert imperial privilege and choose the lynch that day. He uses this power in private, but it is announced in the day-end writeup if Imperial Privilege has been asserted. He does not take part in night chat and is not given any dark roles at the beginning of the game. If the evils choose to communicate with him they may do so, but by doing so they expose of one their number to him. He may be converted by the Seeress of Kell at any time within the first 5 game days. In the event he is converted by Cyradis, that will be announced in thread as it happens, or in the Day post if it she chooses to convert him at night. If he has chosen to assert Privilege and is converted later that day, he may revoke it.

The Dals (Neutrals):

Cyradis: Seeress of Kell. Power: Virtually Unlimited. Is given the identity of the original Children of Light and Dark. (Belgarion and Zandramas are given to her in her role PM. If they are killed, she does NOT learn who inherits) She is also given the identities of Zakath and Ce’Nedra, and has the option to convert either or both of them at any time in the first 5 days. Gets 1 seer peek per night. Masonry with Toth, with whom she can communicate at any time. She may also “appear” to either the current Child of Light or the current Child of Dark once per day...which may be during the day or during the night. She “appears” via pm submitted by the mods, in which she can make a short communication to them. If she chooses to make an appearance, however, she sacrifices her chance at a seer peek that night. Cyradis does not know which side she wins with, dark or light. She is a true neutral, and serves Balance. Her win condition is to bring the endgame to 3 people: herself, one good player, and one evil player. If she is successful, she is told which side she is on, and she and that side win the game. Cyradis is invincible. If she is targeted for night death, there will be no death and the evils will learn they targeted the Seeress of Kell. If she is lynched, the player with the next highest vote total will die and the players will learn they attempted to lynch the Seeress.

Toth: Masonry with Cyradis and shares her win condition. He also has an uncorruptable double vote: his counts twice and is not available for sale to Naradas. Note: he does NOT count as a good or evil character for the final 3. He must die at some point for his team to win. They may communicate outside the thread at any time. Additionally, he may secretly pass information one-way to Durnik.

Default Re: Malloreon II: Return of the Rivan King GAME THREAD

Rules of Engagement:

Day and Night:

Day will run from approximately 8 am EST to exactly 9 pm EST. Votes timestamped before 9:01 pm will be included in the tally.

Players with the ability to cast secret votes, change votes, or choose/avert the lynch must do so no later than 15 minutes after day's end (9:15 pm). They may submit their requests at any time after the thread is opened for the day.

Weekends will be one long day running from 8 am EST on Saturday to 9 pm EST on Sunday night.

Out of Thread Communications:

Evil players that have chat access may communicate only at night. Night is considered to be 9:15 for the purposes of beginning evil chat.

Neutrals may communicate at any time, in whatever manner they prefer.

Cyradis may "appear" to the Child of Light or the Child of Dark during either day or night, but only via mod pm.

Toth may communicate with Durnik only at night, only one way (Toth to Durnik), only once per night, and only via mod pm. F

The Liselle/Silk masonry, if formed, may communicate at any time, in any manner they prefer.

The Evils may communicate with Zakath if they choose, only at night and only via one-way mod pm. If they do so, they must choose one player to be the communicator. Zakath will be given that player's name.

All other communication must take place in the game thread, and only during Day hours.

Night Actions:

Night actions MUST be pmed to the game mods no later than 7 am EST. Any actions not completed by 7 EST are forfeited. This is non-negotiable because there is a dark seer in this game, and all night business must be concluded before we will release Zandramas's "see". Once Zandramas has received the results of her peek it is, for all intents and purposes "day", in the sense that the Evils may no longer night chat.

Winning Conditions:

Light Win Condition: All followers of the Dark Prophecy are dead.

Dark Win Condition: Voting power of Dark is equal to or greater than that of Light. For the purposes of the Dark win condition, all players have a voting power of 1, except for the current Child of Light, current Child of Dark, Silk, and Naradas. They are each assigned a voting power of 2.

Neutral Win Condition: Only 3 players remain: one Light, one Dark, and the Seeress of Kell.

In the event the Neutrals meet their win condition, there will be a mod coinflip to determine which side the Seeress chooses. Light or Dark may still win, but their fate is in the perfectly balanced hands of the Seeress (as determined by rand() .)

Children of the Prophecies:

The Malloreon is the tale of the Struggle between the Prophecy of Light and the Prophecy of Dark. As such, there will ALWAYS be a Child of Light and a Child of Dark living as long as the game is running. If the Heirs to the prophecy die, one of the remaining ordinary players on that team will inherit the voting powers of the Child they follow. However, only the original Heirs inherit the additional powers (Divination or Clemency) that the Children of Dark and Light wield.

Rule Clarifications:

Questions may be asked in game thread only by directly addressing the mods. Private questions may be asked by PM and will be answered in the game thread.

Default Re: Malloreon II: Return of the Rivan King GAME THREAD

We begin in Riva, on the Isle of the Winds.

Riva is named after its first ruler, Riva Iron-grip, the youngest son of Cherek Bear-shoulders, and first Guardian of the Orb of Aldur. The Citadel at Riva was specifically designed by Belgarath, protect the Orb. Riva itself is half city, half fortress, inaccessible except by one seaport. Its grey-clad residents never forget that the first duty of their king and of each citizen is to protect the Orb and the line of Iron-grip.

Somehow, in this citadel of a city, evil has found a foothold. Belgarion's young son Geran, the hereditary defender of the Orb and last descendant of the line of Iron-grip, is missing...kidnapped by the Followers of Dark.

There is only one explanation.

Someone trusted by King Belgarion and Queen Ce'Nedra is a traitor. There may be one or several, but even among their closest companions, Evil must be lurking. King Belgarion has ordered the port closed. None may enter or leave the city. The Forces of Dark are, for the moment, trapped within the confines of Riva.

Light has quietly gathered to Garion's side. But, fearing the traitors lurking in their midst, those with special abilities have disguised themselves to appear as ordinary grey-cloaked Rivans. No one is above suspicion. And as time passes, King Belgarion and Queen Ce'Nedra grow ever more desperate. Desperate monarchs have been known to take drastic measures...with unfortunate results.

It is now...

DAY.

Default Re: Malloreon II: Return of the Rivan King GAME THREAD

I want this post to be one of the first because it will recap a lot of the day1 discussion we had in Malloreon I, and will thus remove a lot of the strategy discussion which some hate so much. In Malloreon I, we discussed strategy a lot day1 - and came to nearly no conclusions. Basically, there's nothing particularly abusive strategy we can do, nor can we draw any conclusions about what neutral / convertible people will do.

OPTIMAL GAMEPLAY STRATEGY AND FACTS
Detailed so that we don't have to discuss. I've been careful to not to include any controversial topics here, everything here is optimal strategy purely because not doing the following would be bad strategy.

[*]27 Players. Not counting convertibles or Geran as anything special, there are: 7 Evils, 2 Neutrals, 11 Confirmed Villagers (Power Roles), 7 Vanillagers.[*]Dark has control of 8 total votes, and has control of 4 total votes in just 2 people. We should make sure to get a solid majority on whatever target we wish to lynch. Make compromises. Go with your second-best-choice if your first choice can't be lynched. Having the top lynch target not get lynched can't be good for the village. Give it a solid majority. And, make sure there is a SOLID second target with a good number of votes up there - in case of Cyradis, as well as other possibilities.[*]Cyradis will never make an appearance to either team until at least day6, because giving up that peek is huge. Besides, Toth could always come out and give the information publicly.[*]Kal Zakath should not use Imperial Privilege at any time before day5, because this increases his chances of winning on either side he's on past that day.[*]Mengha should use his demon as many times as possible before he dies if he's up soon for lynch. On average, he will kill 3 good players before he dies. Nothing we can do here...lynch evils, hope to hit Mengha. Mengha, unlike the first Malloreon, should not be using his demons at a completely random time...unless he thinks he's the target of Sadi or something.[*]At a reasonable time before nightfall, (let's say, 6 PM - 7 PM EST) if you are a power role which looks to be lynched and you have already defended yourself, you should claim. (Durnik, Sadi, Liselle, Silk, Belgarion) If you are Belgarath, Beldin, or Polgara, do NOT claim -- Poledra will out himself and say "I AM POLEDRA, I know X is pro-village" -- the benefit of this play is that the wolves could end up killing Beldin, the Obfuscationator, which is a rather weak role compared to the other two. If Poledra fails to come out by, let's say, 7 PM EST, and Beldin/Belgarath/Polgara have defended themselves as much as they can, then they must fall to plan B and claim themselves, which is bad because they are prime wolf targets. So Poledra, you must watch carefully and stop village lynches on these 3 by coming out if they are on the lynch.[*]Silk should NOT come out day1, as happened in Malloreon 1 (unless he's on the lynch, which is what happened on Malloreon 1, of course). A day masonry is not that strong and not worth giving up the peek. However, we can talk strategy about if Silk should come out on...say, day3, for Liselle to mason with, because Liselle may have found some useful information by then to share through Silk for Silk to out in the thread without outing Liselle.[*]Neutral has a very real and good chance to win in this game, being invincible and able to help either side. They can also swing the game -1 evil +1 good, or +1 evil -1 good at any time before day5. However, this is really not worth talking about, there is nothing we can do to stop this.
TL;DR Version
Just play normally: lynch the followers of dark. There's no strategy to be had here to gain an advantage, other than basically making sure you don't get lynched if you're a confirmed villager (a power role).

Additional Thoughts
Cyradis should out Mengha the moment Cyradis peeks him. (Or, get Toth to out Mengha). Why? Because variance sucks for the neutral team.

Detailing my playstyle:

[*]I will not be playing like Zurvan. I believe I have a new style, which will work ESPECIALLY well in this game.[*]I'm going to use a lot of lists! Yay! I like lists.[*]The spreadsheets of doom are back!
Here's a sneak preview of a spreadsheet of doom.
Yes, my guess of seven evils is relatively random right now - however, it is not RAND()ed - it is the people that I would like to see voted off day1, because I feel like I can't read them enough, or because I don't particularly want to vote off anyone in "The Rest" because I feel like I can read them or I feel like they're particularly strong villagers.
