Default Fold Equity Formulas NL

Here are some formulas that some may find useful in NL, particularly towards the later stages of an sng .

Say you have S BB's after the blinds have been taken in and you're in the BB . Your opponent raises 3X the BB and you're in a quandary as to whether you should shove or fold . You guess that if you shove you will probably be a 2:1 dog if called . What percentage of the time must your opponent fold for a push to be positive EV ??

We wish to solve the following :

4x +(1-x)[2*(S+1)*1/3 - S] >=0
clearing we get that x>=(S-2)/(10+S)

So if you have 15 BB's and your opponent raises the typical amount , you have to be certain that he will fold 13/25 =52% . This is true if we think our equity if called is 33% .

If you think you have a 40% equity if called then the formula works out to x>=(S-4)/(16+S)

So Nicho , if you're reading this , you can solve your 3 bet all in math problem using this formula .

S=800/30 = 26.666666

So x>=22.666/42.666666
x>= .53125

Thanks jay shark, your simplification is good. Whats the bottom of our shoving range if we only need 33% equity?
