Microsoft may have a de facto monopoly on operating systems, but it got that by outcompeting other companies. The IKEA guy got rich because everyone loves IKEA furniture, and Warren Buffett invested without getting any special treatment. So great wealth dosenīt have to be a result of a government issued monopoly.

I love it when the richest man in the world is somehow a champion of the poor.
And as for the "Mexico has a chance" thought, do you realize how bad it is in Mexico right now? The last election is still disputed in the streets, the police are infiltrated by drugs and drug violence is escalating. Plus the local and state governments are horribly corrupt

Still I would be in favor of more help to Mexico if it meant less aid to africa. There is no reason to give millions of dollars to countries who's ppl are starving and have no water but have a vast array of fighter jets and weapons.

No offense to Mexico, or to Mexicans, but I wish people in this country would stop working to control poverty in other countries, and start working to control poverty in the United States...having said that, Bill Gates gives more to charity than some countries, every year, consistently...

Poverty in America means living on less than two cars and two big screen TVs, and isnt in the same ballpark with poverty in most of the world.

So, let's recap your 2 posts: -- It is messed up to not worry about American poverty just because 3rd world is worse. -- It is outrageous to worry about 3rd world poverty so long as any Americans are poor, albeit less poor. Now, THAT'S messed up. (But hardly surprising.)
