Default one last run at a trashcan forum idea

I see Dids complaining about the posts in 4Life, and each time I think 'well if he could ship them to a trashcan forum, people would soon get the message'. Also, I actually think a lot of the stuff he hates is pretty funny, and I think a lot of 4Lifers think so too.

Same issue with the dumb oot posts that get locked/deleted that I read about in ATF.

Is this worth a try in the mod playground at some point?

As I've had the mod playground twice already, someone else is best to try it.

I still like Tuq in there as an 'educator'/ringmaster, but I think Chump Change would also be a good guy in there too.

I'm still not clear on this whole issue wrt Mat/Mason/Ryan, is it they just don't want a very hands-off forum where anything goes, as long as it doesn't break T&C/no pron/no racism/no trainwrecks? I'm never clear if this desire to 'tidy up' Life is driven by the mods alone or they've been directed to do this.

If they're being directed, then this is all moot I guess, but if they're not, I really don't see why this is anything but a good thing.

I just wanted to add, because it sounds like I'm on a downer about it, I think Dids, CC,2_4_it, kyleb as the new mods are doing great work in 4Life, and they really aren't being that grouchy at all. They go along with stuff in a pretty cool and connected way for like 95% of the time.

Dids in particular is a very good sport and doing a fine job.

It's just I'm not sure why they are so down on certain things that others find entertaining, like EricW and certain threads which are indeed dumb, but quite funny to a reasonable %age of posters.

I don't want a trashcan forum. If a post sucks too much for BBV4L, it sucks too much for anywhere.

Based on the number of people that get banned and come back and get banned and come back and get banned I think there is a lot of evidence that people would never get the message.

Other than that you just have this idea in your head that you want to run with, what makes you think this?

Didn't Mason also say he doesn't want a trashcan forum already? I think at that point our opinion doesn't matter unless his is willing to change. DB i think your thinking backwards this time, Dids is right. If anything should be trying to elevate the level of discussion across the board, a trash forum gives users the excuse to do whatever knowing someone else will clean up their mess.

I believe this forum would grow its own community which would actually be quite likely to engage posters that Dids doesn't want, like EricW.

So they'd be out of his face and engaged elsewhere.

I really don't see the need to work up a froth about posters you don't like who aren't breaking any set rules anyway - never have.

I continue to think this is a good idea. Poor threads go there, poor posters end up there, and it'd have mods willing to engage anyone complaining about oot or whatever to explain to them what's needed (and I don't mean in the usual 'kiss a mod's ass' flippant way).

I think Tuq and myself, and possibly Chump Change and maybe other mods might be good fits for this, and be interested in guiding noobs etc.

I've no idea if those other guys are even interested though.

TT

you could be right. I def don't mean an anything goes place though, more like a refuge-come-soup kitchen for lost souls...

I do seem alone on this, so I'll drop it.
