Default Finding legal council for a (US) poker player

I'm going to be in las vegas next week for 7 days and I assume thats the best place to meet face to face for some relevant legal council.

(of topic
I overpaid in taxes for the last 2 years because I wasnt ready to learn how to do everything right. I tried to do everything neat this year but again i'll probably just end up over paying a little again.)

Any body have someone they can recomend?

You need an accountant, not a lawyer. You will need him/her to file an amended Return for the prior two years and to do your 2007 taxes.

You do not need Las Vegas counsel.

If you want to waste a lot of money, however, I know several folks who will take it from you.

I am an attorney in the US. At this point, thanks mostly to self study, I believe I know as much about the legal status of poker in the US as any attorney out in Las Vegas. I charge $200 an hour, and would be happy to answer any of your legal questions . You can PM me if you are interested.

I know only the basics of tax law, however, and that primarily has to do with the criminal aspects of taxes (evasion and fraud).

An accountant (certified CPA), who will likely charge you about $5-600 to do everything tax related you need, is an expert in all the little tax details. And you dont need one from Las Vegas either, local is much better.

Of course, in these days of the internet, self education is quite possible.

Its your choice, but the smart choice seems obvious to me (and it doesnt involve a PM).
