I remember they used to have debates in which the audience had to agree to remain silent. I wish they would do that again. the live audience really diminishes the quality of the debate.

I think it would make the debates less emotionally driven and you'd have a better discussion of the actual issues. Unfortunately most people wouldn't find it as entertaining to watch, which would hurt ratings. CNN did what was right for CNN.
