8/b: Folding Aces on 5th vs Tough board after showing no strength
Seat 6 is a tight and aggressive player, otherwise I would have lead out on 4th .. would you have called here on 5th?

Re: 8/b: Folding Aces on 5th vs Tough board after showing no strength
I'd probably fold too but I wouldn't mind peeling one off on 5th either & folding unimproved. If he is TAG, then he's got something worthy of calling obvious split aces. Maybe 2 small connecting spades in the hole for a 2 way draw (although a spade draw would be kinda marginal at this point) & he got there on you by fifth.

Re: 8/b: Folding Aces on 5th vs Tough board after showing no strength
i like the fold. given the action and your read, it looks like he started with a fairly coordinated low hand. but in any case you're a dog to almost any two low hole cards. you're OOP and could be facing 3 BB to win about 1.25 with a good chance at getting scooped.
check out last month's magazine article on how to win with big pairs in stud8. |

I don't think it is obviosu split aces, especially given his check on 4th. It looks more like a 3 card low that bricked on 4th.

[/ QUOTE ] It would have looked like split A's if I were playing because I would have been in there raising. Might have bit me in the ass, but I would have raised anyway to see where I was. |

Would you call fourth here with a busted low?
If you're going to define your hand anyway, I prefer doing it aggressively. |

[/ QUOTE ] I always bet out against players who will play less than premium hands, as what do I learn by checking and calling - he has to bet almost anything. This guy would probably raise me here if he paired, so I would be building a bigger pot, revealing my hand, and still not knowing where he was at - I was planning to raise 5th if he bricked. I kept the pot small, my cards were dying quickly and villian shows a coordinated board. The reason I posted this hand was that I wasn't fond of not defining my hand and just folding - but that's how the cards fell on 5th. I think it's OK now, but I was tempted to chase with a back door low at the time but fortunately my discipline prevailed. |

Fifth is fine, I'd probably bet fourth however and see how my opponent reacts

I like check-calling 4th. When your opponent catches the 4, he will generally have a powerful draw against two aces if he isn't actually the favorite in the hand. It also disguises your hand somewhat.
