Giguere is definitely the best goalie on the market, but that's not saying much. Unless Anaheim resigns him, he's going to go to a market with a significantly worse defense. Without Pronger and Neidermayer his performance will definitely drop off.

Yeah, he might be as bad as he was in 2003 with Keith Carney and Ruslan Salei as his #1 and #2 defenseman.

Seriously, he's done great with crap defense and he's done great with great defense. Of course he'd be stupid to go to a team with complete garbage D, but any halfway decent D is all he needs.

Umm, you forget Giguere, far and away the best goalie on the market, especially with Backstrom locked up....

[/ QUOTE ]

Never claimed the list is perfect...

Giguere is good but as others have noted he has benefited from a good defense. In addition he has also been some what inconsistent at times.

Am I the only Ranger fan who is praying they don't resign Nylander?

Nylander looking for $5 mil a year
"...Nylander fired agent Paul Theofanous and is seeking a considerable raise, the New York Post reports...
Nylander fired Theofanous after learning the agent had reached a three-year deal with the Rangers worth $3.75 million a year. Theofanous apparently did so without the approval of Nylander. This is bad news for the Rangers, as Nylander is looking for a contract closer to $5 million per year. Despite his age (35), he may be able to find such a contract elsewhere after recording 162 points in the past two seasons."

If the Rangers can keep him for less then $4 mil a year it would be a great deal... $5 mil a year is too much.

When? People say that, but they never prove that. He had a subpar year after the 2003 Cup, but his numbers weren't bad considering his team wasn't all that good in front of him. They couldn't score goals, but he still put up decent numbers in GAA and SV%. He's been anything but inconsistent. He has very, very few stretches of bad games in the past 5 years.

Here's his stats as Ducks starter...

'01-'02: 20-25-6, 2.13 GAA, .920 SV%
'02-'03: 34-22-6, 2.30 GAA, .920 SV%
'03-'04: 17-31-6, 2.62 GAA, .914 SV%
'05-'06: 30-15-11, 2.66 GAA, .911 SV%
'06-'07: 36-10-8, 2.26 GAA, .918 SV%

Pretty damn good.

All I know is... the Canucks started their transition, and this offseason I hope they finish it. I wish they could get rid of Naslund and Morrison and bring in some speedy forwards. Daniel Briere would be tasty!

I'm going to hate the Canucks if they get some offense.

Ryan Smith will end up in Phoenix or Pittsburgh is my guess.

Exactly, for 5M a yr bring in Gomez. He would break his career highs with the Rangers, just as Nylander has.

Edit: What is the point of signing Nylander for 3 years, if this might be Jagr's last?

he has been inconsistent, last year playoffs is one example...

Giguere 05-06, 3-3, 3.40 GAA .864 SV%

Then Bryzgalov in the same playoffs was..
Bryzgalov 05-06, 6-4, 1.46 GAA .944 SV%

again, don't get me wrong, I think Giguere is a good goalie
but I question if he should get paid like a top 10/15 goalie.
