Re: Could the average NFL fan make it to 20 carries in a game??
[ QUOTE ]
Honestly, I'd be less worried about that than a crushing weakside hit from a monster. I bounce pretty well- it would hurt, but I'd expect to be more likely to be injured by a hit than a bodyslam in that manner. [/ QUOTE ] The thing that would scare me the most would be a play in which a guard pulls. If you get a DT that crosses the center's backside block get ready to be planted. If I had a lead block on every play(FB filling) I can see this as being manageable. As long as every play is a straight dive and the lineman can hold their blocks on the line, I'd much rather be hit by a LB than a D-lineman. Then again I'm 6'1 265 and an offensive lineman. So that just means that I have the mentality that I can't get hurt. |

I have no logical reason for this, but I would try to avoid the strong safety more than any other player on the field.

Re: Could the average NFL fan make it to 20 carries in a game??
Pretty sure I could do this. Most hits won't be head-on and you shouldn't really get blindsided. I'd probably just use the blocking and then try cutting away from the first defender, who would promptly pursue and tackle me from behind like a half step later. How often are the Jacked Up hits on RBs carrying the football. Just about never?
I was thinking I wouldn't want to play with Dawkins because I wouldn't fancy a Dawkplex. |

Re: Could the average NFL fan make it to 20 carries in a game??
The typical NFL fan has very little chance. The avg. NFL fan is 30+ pounds overweight and smokes a pack a day. They would have a tough time carrying the ball 20 times in a high school game without stopping due to fatigue or injuries.
There are definitely some people who could do it though. I'd guess somewhere around 10-15%. It would take a lot of heart and one bone crushing hit will put enough doubt in most people's mind that they would quit. Say it got changed from running the ball 20 times to running 20 crossing routes over the middle of the field where they throw the ball your direction every time. How many of you guys that think you can complete the carries think you can complete this too? |

Re: Could the average NFL fan make it to 20 carries in a game??
There is little to no chance of success - everyone who plans to "just run up to the line and fall down" (or variations thereof) should read Paper Lion by George Plimpton. I think you are vastly overestimating how easily you could take the handoff from center at NFL speed, or that you would have any chance to reach the line of scrimmage before the line sprung a leak somewhere.
I think within the first 3 plays, it goes snap->fumbled handoff/QB standing there waiting for you->you die in the ball scramble. |
