Re: something simple you can all use in live play
wrong use of counterfeited.
his comment on the turn showed a cockiness. since i had been caught bluffing earlier in the session he thought he was being clever by letting me bet his hand for him thus his comment "ill just call". the best live play is about putting all these sorts of non-card things together and finding or saving extra bets accordingly. |

Nice thread. I know that I need to look for situations like these more often.

Re: something simple you can all use in live play
The point here, guys, is that, in live play, a guy who says "I"ll just call" when, on the previous streeet, he didn't just call, has a hand. But given Mike's action, he's a bit timid here, afraid of aces up or a straight. There's no way he had a straight, almost a zero percent chance.
But when Mike checks the river, he will bet his hand for value and is more likely to call the check-raise against Mike than against, say, me. Very few players say "I'll just call" after taking a passive line. They don't feel the need to say that since they just call most of the time anyway. |

i wasnt sure he would bet the turn that's why i bet. then when he said what he said on the turn i decided to c/r the river. what he said on the turn made me confident he liked his hand enough to bet the river. [/ QUOTE ] When I read further into the thread, it became more clear. Good move. b |

Re: something simple you can all use in live play
I don't care how passive you are, if you have QJ on the Q J 9 A X board and it gets checked to you on the river, you are going to bet like 99 times out of 100. And that's most likely what this guy has given that he just calls the turn (we can now eliminate KT here like almost 100% of the time) and had capped the flop. He never raises Mike on the river here, but will most definitely call the check raise since tough old guys hate getting bluffed out of pots.

[ QUOTE ]
For cryin out loud, never mind! Guess I'm a brain-dead idiot tonight. While I knew an ace turned, and also knew mike had AA, I somehow failed to realize this gave mike a set, which beat two pair?!?!?!?!? OMFG... Sorry about that. Of course, I'm much less worried about mike being beat. And "confused" players(even passive ones), might bet enough worse hands to make it worth going for a check/raise. Geesh. Really sorry guys (mike). Shouldn't post when I'm not paying attention to what I'm doing. [/ QUOTE ] Lestat.... I've said it before and I'll say it again... You are a gentleman and a scholar. I however am not... so quit posting when you are so frickin' tired. I was confused as hell trying to read your original comments. |

result
it was monday afternoon.
funny side note: a couple hours later the game changed a lot and of all people to come walk in and sit in the game was Dan Druff super high stakes LHE star. he was caught in traffic and decided to stop in. he played loose and aggressive. it was funny watching all these fish do battle with him not knowing who they were up against and not caring at all. anyway old guy bet the river and autocalled my raise and he showed QTo for pair of Qs. he just couldnt wait to get his money in the pot when i checked the river. |

Re: result
The line usually goes like this.. "I'll just call"
Then the river comes and you say "Ok, I'll check" And then they say "Well, I have to bet" I haven't seen this in 20/40, but I have numerous times in my 6/12 and 8/16 games at CAZ. |
