moving to canada

how easy/difficult is it for an american to pack up and move to canada? has anyone done this? what issues need to be taken into consideration?

ie, can you just say, 'i dont like america let me in' ? i mean as a internet poker player you arent really a productive member of society. why would they want you?

LEGALLY IT IS VERY DIFFICULT...I went to school in Montreal and even that was a bitch. Had to get a visa for both the province and the country...takes forever...

Immigrating to Canada from US is notoriously hard unless you have a MD or a ton of cash...fkin hypocrits that they are.

Im not sure of the details but thats how it is with the Chinese who immigrate to B.C.

Unless you are like an Afghan women if you are penniless and not a refugee just forget about getting sitizenship without some heavy credentials in demand...i.e. and M.D. or desirable PhD...MBA from Wharton and job there for awhile.....

Again ive just heard this stuff anecdotally im not immigration lawyer working out of Ottawa.

Not gonna happen unless you can invest several million into a business that will give jobs to Canadians.

My wife got in on a work visa after we were married (sponsored by her work) and the paperwork making her a landed immigrant took all of 2 months to process... If you're a poker player however, I'm sure it'll involve alot more hoop-jumping.

I'd suggest you take a two week vacation to Vancouver (or wherever you're thinking of moving) for two reasons - find out what the city is like (come up sometime in the winter), and to try to find a Canadian to marry.

ironically, if you are mexican, it's easy to get into canada.
