Re: wanting to become a cop
edge you're being retarded, ask your cop buddy if he knows any guys who burned out on the job and are now the typical jaded-cop stereotype. having a cool cop as your gay lover doesn't apply to any other case, and I think that he is more the exception than the rule to dealing with the stresses of the job

it appears to me that Edge34 knows the least about Police of everyone in this thread.
PS your state is 90% white so you are ineligible to participate in race discussions |

Depends on the agency you'd be applying to. You'd probably have more luck in smaller town type areas but I can't say for sure. Gotta be able to get into it though for what it is. I was a criminal justice major and intended to go into law enforcement. Did a two month internship with the state capitol's CID/county detectives. Had an absolute ball for those two months, went back to school and completely changed my focus from law enforcement to business analysis. Cops are for the most part great guys/girls, but you've gotta realize that for the most part these are people that see the worst side of people as their profession. In my two months, I: - Oversaw two autopsies, one being a guy who either blew his head off or had his head blown off by his g/f playing a f**ked up sex game. - Collected evidence implicating a man accused of having multiple sexual partners in their early teens at his house. - Oversaw a house being stormed by CRT (like SWAT) to clear it after they'd picked up a guy who had multiple machine guns who threw his g/f out of his house yelling that she should get the cops cause he's gonna kill 'em all. - Participated in a "street-walker" raid where they went rounding up dozens of the $20 hookers. Etc. When you see so much ugliness, you take one a very cynical view of the world. You're not seeing the good in people anymore, you're wondering about the worst in people. It's like that with every cop I've ever known, and I've known and am still friends with quite a few. Good luck to you! - C - [/ QUOTE ] Wow the last part is the truth |

You're completely missing the point of my post. A guy comes out and talks about his racist dad who hates his life, and implies its directly related to the job. Every cop I know and most I hear about seem to do just fine with the job. I'm sure some are jaded, but so are a lot of guys working office jobs. And so are a ton of pro poker players who do nothing but sit in casinos or in front of computers.... Nice try with the gay lover line though. But yo' mama so fat, she got more chins than a Chinese phone book...BURN... |

Have you ever been to Minneapolis or St. Paul though? Not exactly the Hamptons. Tell me about your experiences though, if you're such a goddamn expert. |

Re: wanting to become a cop
my dad is a cop. He works at a prison now but was hired as a cop in the state orgoen. or how ever you spel it, they live outside of portland.
he got pretty far pretty fast having spent 21years in the army, and having experince as a authority figure. he had to take a polygraph, he told them he had done drugs when he was younger (smoked pot), they asked him if he had ever paid for sex, raped anybody. my father was a loss prevention guy at walmart (caught shoplifters), so he knew alot of cops, they told him to just tell the truth, they were more intrested in find out if you were honest than had done drugs, or solicted sex. He did have to pass a physical fitness test of some sort but he said it was garbage, and he went to some sort of academy for like a month, came home on weekends, and voluntereed to get shot with a taser. i think i all it took like 7 or 8 months of interveiws before they hired him but i was under the impression that they hire alot at once, instead of one by one. he now works at a county jail on the day shift and loves it, and get paid pretty well. i wanna say its like 60k. works 4days on 4days off 12 hour shifts |

Re: wanting to become a cop
OP, dunno about your state, but the NYPD gives a "second chance" to previous felons. I don't remember the details, but because no one wanted the [censored] paying job (25k-40k your first 4 yrs of duty) they started taking in people w/ records.
As far as the rehab for your image, last I knew those records were sealed especially if you were a minor at the time, and I doubt the cops have some CIA type clearance doing a routine background investigation. If you're clean now and otherwise qualified, quit worrying. They take in a lot more scumbags with more baggage than you. |
