I checked this thread expecting to find a discussion on the worst play call in college football history:

4th and 8 on the 24 yard line. Tie game. Final minute.

Field goal, anyone?

I don't care how bad you think your kicker is. You give him a shot at a 41 yarder. If you were that kicker, would you even show up for practice on Monday?

Lennon- I thought going for it on 4th and 14 from their own 30 with over seven minutes left down by less than a TD was worse.

More bad news for ND (well not news exactly), but if Texas wins this week and ND loses (both the favored outcomes by Vegas), they will be tied for #2 on the all-time wins list. As you can imagine, Texas is likely to get a couple more wins anyway, whereas ND is going to have a hard time with everyone.

It's going to take a long time to pass them for second in win %, however.

I was struck by how many times that Navy's def coord seemed to outguess CW, and only the superior athleticism/strength/size/speed of ND averted disaster. They were out coached in every phase beyond the dubious game plan and game management-- and with two weeks to prepare.

There was just so much to like about this game: CW telling us that ND had stopped the fullback coming out of halftime and were looking to handle the pitchman better in the second half-- and then watching Navy give to the fullback on consecutive plays for solid gainers to start the half minutes later; Or that ND couldn't risk punting to Navy because they knew they couldn't stop them-- you are bigger, faster, stronger, and more talented, at home out of a bye, and you don't have a defensive answer because Navy is running the best offense 1968 could devise.

I really loved Charlie Weis when he was coaching the Patriots but I remember a time when Parcells took away calling the offensive plays from him.

If I ever hear another Domer talking about how bad Zook coaches in game, these will be my first pieces of evidence as to why Weis is just as bad.

Those decisions were mind-numbingly poor

oh yeah....Weis has had 3 recruiting classes....3 on the field right now!

I still give Weis time if I'm in charge due to the jimmies and joes showing up

I'm also thinking everything has piled up and Weis is now making the dumbest decisions in the world due to trying to get things going and the pressure getting to him

wipe the slate clean

next year---a bowl game is a must however

Do you think there's any reason to expect significant improvement next year?

The win over UCLA makes this statement not true.
