What reason is there to play mindless games like Monopoly once you discover quality games?

And I'm not talking about poker, but if you're going to play something non-poker, there are so many great board games that offer terrific gaming experiences that reward decision-making and thinking, that it's amazing that Monopoly is more than a blip....

(Rant off)

Candyland with the young nephews is kinda fun. The new electronic battleship is kinda cool too.

I'm aging myself, but the best "board" game was King Oil- a game where you drill for oil on a thick board that had three discs that randomize the hole depths on the properties. You could pipeline your neighbors etc. Awesome game.

Shockingly enough, I've never heard of it, and that's bothersome seeing as how games are my industry.

I'll be hunting eBay. Thanks for the recommendation - I seldom get one where I've never heard of the game.

As someone who loved Monopoly as a ten year old but hasn't touched the game since, I am eagerly awaiting the coming of the next Depression to make the game relevant once again.

That's something to root for: a national disaster to make a mindless game timely.

All that you said was true, which was my point really...why make Mike leave the table at all?I mean why does some one have to stand away from the table to recieve a call , it cant be anything to do to protect the integrity of the game,

For the record, Bart and Tuch, lest my rant seem like we're not talking about gambling - every board game we play with money on the line, whether it's Risk or Puerto Rico or whatever.
