Don't bring more than 10k on a plane, unless you want to be detained in the event its discovered.

[/ QUOTE ]

Far as I know, $10K is only important when traveling abroad. You can't come/go outside the US with >$10K without paperwork. But domestically, there ain't no laws about this that I can find. Doesn't mean some power-tripping law enforcement officials won't get a bloodhound to bark at your money and try to take your wad if you bring a bunch, but I know of nothing magical about $10K.

[/ QUOTE ]

This has been discussed here in the past, welcome to the post 911 world. 10k is illegal overseas, 10k domestically gets you stopped and investigated, but its not illegal.

I posted this here once before I think. On my way to Vegas and the airport security person notices large bulges in my two front pockets (insert joke here) after I set off the metal detector with my watch or maybe cell phone. She is pointing to my pockets to make sure that I do not have anything metal and she wants me to empty them but I am not interested in pulling out 17K or 18K in cash in front of a lot of people. After my repeated reluctance she leans in and asks me quietly if it is cash and I say yes and she says fine and waves me through without a problem.

I think if you are traveling to or from Las Vegas on a domestic flight you can carry cash without much hassle.

Smelled a bit like ballsack when I got back, but hey, it was Detroit.

I'm proud to say that I would not be able to recognize the smell opf ballsack.

And I'm pretty sure that if I had to do this for some reason I would NOT be putting the money up to my nose afterwards to check out the aroma.

I also don't want to pay exorbitant fees for using a credit/debit card.

[/ QUOTE ]

Do you get charged fees for using a credit card?

If you use it to get cash from an ATM you do.

Once upon a time I had to walk about 5 blocks through downtown Detroit after leaving Greektown at 4:00am. I had about $2800 on me. I stuck about $85 in my wallet and shoved the rest in my underwear. Smelled a bit like ballsack when I got back, but hey, it was Detroit.

I recommend this method. And if your wad is big enough, you may actually get enough of a hitch in your stride to make you look like a banger. Then you know no one will mess with you.

[/ QUOTE ]

You can carry two wallets. Load one with a bunch of small bills, one credit card, a bunch of business cards, and your ID. Keep everything else in the other wallet.

Avoids the whole 'ballsack' deal.

To be honest, it was my wife that told me it smelled the next day. She wanted some money while I was still half asleep and I sort of mumbled that there was money over in my pants. When she found it she told me it stank and she would be embarrassed to use it. I had spent 3.5 hours in the car with leather seats on a hot day before going to the casino, so well.. it was probably pretty fragrant.

I solved the smelly problem by paying the as$hat of a front desk person at the hotel for our stay with the outermost 3 bills.

I think next time the parking lot is full, I will just pass on the casino for that night. Walking alone downtown at 4:00 am in the second most dangerous city in the country with 2-3 grand in your pocket is pretty stupid.

Metal money clip = sets off metal detector. Somebody needs to come out with a pimptastic carbon fiber money clip.

The money clamp people have a version for use in airports. They don't seem to recommend it for everyday use.
